We were visiting Anchorage, Alaska from Oregon and were interested in catching halibut. We came in the early season, April, when not many charters are taking people out for halibut fishing. Our Captain, Forrest, was extremely helpful with getting us the information we needed to navigate to Homer and what to bring with us. We flew in for a day trip to Homer and he and his deckhand, Jacqueline, picked us up from the airport and took us to their beautiful boat ,The Black Pearl. From there we went out into Kachemak bay and began our fishing. The morning current proved to be a little rough so we began in a smoother area for rockfish. After nearly catching our limit, the swells subsided and we moved into halibut territory. We were able to catch around 10 Pacific Cod along with 2 halibut to meet our goal. Along the way we caught a few ugly Irish Lords and kelp greenling. We finished our rockfish limit and then proceeded to troll for salmon. We were also given the opportunity to feed a pair of bald eagles with herring that were closely following the boat. From there we called it a day, headed back in and Forrest helped bring our filleted fish into the freezing and shipping depot where they could be shipped back home to Oregon when we arrive. Afterwards we were driven back to the airport for our short flight back to Anchorage! We also stopped by to see a few Moose on the way. Overall it was a wonderful day fishing and would be thrilled to do it all over again! Thank you Forrest and Jacqueline!
