Catching Fish

Half Day Trip4 adults

The first mate and captain did a fair job and were very nice and made everyone feel at home and taught some of my family some tricks about fishing . However the process of fishing was very slow as we had 4 people and sometimes the only ones fishing were the first mate and the captain and none of us had a line in the water. the tackle was extremely light and was being used for the crew to catch bait fish for the next booking. at the very end they got a couple of sharks hooked for my brother-in-law which was the highlight of trip. When i asked about fishing for sharks We were told that unless we were gonna mount a shark we couldn't bring one aboard . I know that's not true and I know that most charters have the permits so you can catch sharks. I love to eat shark steaks. I would not use these guys again as at the end I gave the captain a tip as its a custom. They I gave them just above 10% , the captain told me it was supposed to be 20% . I gave him the additional monies but they didn't really earn.

Response from Charter operator

We’re sorry to hear that you did not fully enjoy your trip. Our crew worked very hard to ensure that you had a positive experience. It was a half-day reef and wreck trip, and we followed our usual procedure by targeting yellowtails at a wreck site and dropping for larger fish on the bottom. We understand that some members of your party became frustrated when fish were lost, and our captain personally came down to assist, hoping to improve your chances of hooking up. We noticed your frustration early on and understand that you expected more immediate results, but as with all fishing trips, patience is often key. Our strategy involved a mix of yellowtail fishing and putting down bigger rods to target larger fish such as grouper, sharks, and big snappers. This approach did result in some nice catches. Regarding sharks, it’s important to note that keeping and killing most sharks requires special permits, and handling large sharks can be dangerous. There are Specialized shark trips are available from some boats to keep and kill sharks but are significantly more expensive, ranging from $3,000 to $5,000. The claim that we were catching bait for a subsequent trip is untrue. We used almost all the bait on your trip, and any extra bait was given to your party upon request. There was no second trip that day. Regarding tipping, it is customary to tip 20% for the crew’s hard work. Our crew stayed out longer to enhance your experience, not because they caught a shark but because fishing was challenging, and they wanted to give you the best possible trip. No one demanded additional money, and in the end, you tipped 16%. We hope you reconsider your view on this trip. As a small business, we are passionate about what we do and strive to provide excellent service. Your feedback is important to us, and we would love the opportunity to take you out again. Best regards, Captain Joe The Anglers Choice Team

    night time shark trip

    Shark and Tarpon6 adults

while we didn't catch any sharks on this trip, the captain and mate worked their butts off and did everything they could to make it happen. saddly conditions were not in our favor, but that's just how it goes sometimes. we did, however, not leave empty-handed! they kept us busy catching yellow tail snapper, blue runners, horse eye jacks, and barracuda while we waited on the sharks. the conditions were tough across the board but they really did their best to show us a good time and despite not catching a shark i can honestly say this was one of the most enjoyable charters i have been on. i would recommend this crew to anyone, experienced or not. great boat, gear, and communication both before and during the trip.

    Awesome Experience

    3/4 Day Trip6 adults

Family’s first trip to the Keys. Kids just wanted to catch fish and that is exywhat they did. Luke was knowledgeable and patient with the kids. He made sure they all caught something. Captain Brian also was outstanding. He knew where to find the fish and consistently helped the kids too. Highly recommend this boat!

    Incredible crew!

    Half Day PM6 adults2 children

My family and I have been fishing the Keys for many 30 years and have experienced many fishing crews. Captain Ryan and Cayden were hands down the best team. Captain Ryan was an expert managing his boat and the ocean. Cayden’s expertise came in while baiting and fishing. Together, they were the best duo. We went fishing with two small boys. The crew brought so much energy and patience along for the ride. Thank you for an unforgettable day out at sea. We’ll be seeing you again soon!

    Fish ON

    Half Day Trip2 adults

Ryan and Mike were great. The captain put the boat on fish and Mike(first mate) quickly maintained 4 poles at the same time in rough waters. I and my son law did our best to stay on our feet, holding on to the ladder support while we watched Mike. We caught black tuna for dinners this week.

Fun day fishing off key largo

    3/4 Day Trip - 12:00 PM3 adults

Captain Deb and first mate Jacoby were a great team. They worked hard to find us fish for dinner. Seas were choppy so conditions were not ideal, but we still took home a bunch of yellowtail snappers and a nice size mahi. We had a great time and can’t wait to do it again.
