Deep Sea Fishing in Daytona Beach
If you have tried deep sea fishing in Daytona Beach, congratulations - you have experienced everything Florida has to offer. Its waters reward anglers with the best creatures you may ever haul aboard. There is hardly a better introduction to the art of offshore sport fishing!
How to fish and what to catch
The deep sea in Daytona Beach means the Atlantic Ocean. Its waters teem with a myriad of exciting game fish which could satisfy your angling needs. There is just about anything to your liking.
The artificial reel system is just off the coast of Daytona Beach. It is extensive and rich with a great variety of bottom dwellers. There are Red, Vermilion, Lane, and Mangrove Snapper and various types of Grouper in large numbers, as well as Cobia, Sharks, Triggerfish, and Amberjack around the artificial reef. Your go-to technique will be bottom fishing or deep dropping, which yield big fish and long fights.
Trolling is another method that is popular in Daytona Beach. Your captain will run topwater lures and planers for Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Kingfish, Cobia, Sailfish, and who knows what else patrols the deep waters 30-50 miles out.
When to go
If you are ready to tame the fast and furious Kingfish, Wahoo, Tuna, and Barracuda, battle high jumping Tarpon, Mahi Mahi, and Sailfish, book a trip with a local captain. This is the safest way to enjoy the thrill of catching big fish.
Go out and target whatever is biting, or ask your captain what is in season. Kingfish are around all the time, with winter, mid-spring, and late summer being the best time. They are caught by trolling live bait, just like Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, and Barracuda. Those are also great all year round, with peaks from March to June and from August to October. Sailfishing is also great in winter.
Cobia can be caught in good numbers by sight fishing and slow trolling. Go out anytime from January until March or from June until July. You won’t regret it!
If you want to test yourself in bottom fishing for Groupers, May and November are the best months. Snappers are great year-round but May is the slowest month.
