If you’ve never fished Saginaw Bay before and you’re ready to go on Walleye-Perch hunt, book a trip with Dietrich Sportfishing Charters. Captain Shane Dietrich works very hard to put you on the fish and fill your cooler with a delicious catch.

Your transport and fishing platform for the day is Gypsea – a sturdy and spacious 28’ Cherokee that accommodates as many as 6 anglers. She’s powered by twin 270 HP Crusader engines, which means you’ll be on the fish within 30 minutes after leaving the shore. Another great perk of the vessel is that she has an 11’ beam, that allows your group to fully enjoy casting their lines and wrestling their catch. The boat’s got a toilet and fish finding electronics that will help you locate those spooky fish even faster.

Capt. Shane provides all bait and tackle for your fishing expedition, so you’re covered in that aspect. He will also do fish cleaning and bagging at the dock when you return so you can take those tasty fish home to eat. If you’re in the mood to eat, but not so much to cook, you can take your cleaned catch to a local restaurant and they will transform into something delicious.

The waters of Saginaw Bay are abundant in Walleye and Yellow Perch, and they will be your main suspect as you head out to the best fishing spots. Walleye fishing is at full swing since April, and Perch takes the spotlight starting August. The season is open until the end of October, so be sure to book a trip up until that point.

Capt. Shane loves having kids aboard, teaching them how to bait their hook and learn more about fish. Captain has an expression that on His boat is very much family friendly and he enjoys taking out parents with children out for a fun memorable outing.

Book a trip with Dietrich Sportfishing Charters and let the Walleye-Perch adventures begin!

Grandson Fishing Trip

Half Day Trip - Walleye (PM) on June 26, 2025

Our 10 year old grandson had a great time reeling in walleyes. He caught the majority of our fish plus the biggest one in the 4 to 41/2 pound range. The lake was rough but Shane worked hard helping us to get close to our limit. This is the second time we had Shane as our guide and he has done a fantastic job both times. This was our youngest grandson’s first time catching walleye. He had a blast. His favorite part of the trip was riding in the boat at full throttle and of course reeling in the walleye. Thanks Shane for a great trip!

5 Hour Trip – Shared Walleye (AM) on June 29, 2025

We had so much fun! My hubby fishes a lot, but this was my first time on a charter and first time fishing for walleye. Captain Steve, First Mate Bailey and their crew member (I'm so sorry I didn't catch his name) were so attentive and good at what they do -- and hilarious! Laughed a lot, caught our limit, had amazing weather.. and I totally dropped the very first fish back into the water I attempted to hold in my hands.. sorry Bailey 😬😂 Would definitely go again 10/10!

Half Day Trip – Walleye (AM) on July 11, 2025

We had a great time with Captain Shane, he was ready to go when we arrived, and once we got to where the fish were we landed our first within five to ten minutes. The equipment was top notch and Captain Shane was great with the children in our group along with the rest of our crew. We landed 28 walleye on our morning trip. Would definitely recommend this charter.

5 Hour Trip – Shared Walleye (AM) on June 28, 2025

Capt Shane is awesome. He was ready to go early in the morning. We got right on the water and started catching fish. It was a little windy and some waves but we moved a couple times to find the fish. We got our limit and headed back to shore. He cleaned and bagged the fillets fast. We had an amazing time

Half Day Trip - Walleye (PM) on September 22, 2024

We had a great day catching fish on the Bay. My elderly father was excited to get back on the water after being sidelined for several years. Shane's boat had the perfect spot for Dad to sit and stay comfortable while he reeled in the fish. We caught several fish immediately, and Shane worked hard to find us more when we hit a dry spell. Dad was able to end the trip by pulling in a 30" walleye! Thanks for the memories, we had a lot of fun!

I grew up fishing the Saginaw Bay and its tributaries. I remember my dad taking me fishing for Perch, Walleye, Salmon, and many other species that Michigan has to offer on inland lakes, rivers, and the Great Lakes. I lived in very close proximity to the Tittabawassee River as a kid and remember my mom dropping me off on her way to work so I could fish. The Walleye runs were good back then but not near how great they are these days. I was passionate about fishing then and as I grew older, my passion turned into an obsession. Now the Walleye fishing is world class and as a grown man, I am still obsessed with catching and eating these tasty fish. I look forward to every trip I have on the Saginaw Bay. From the sunrises to the sunsets and all the great people I get to meet and fish with, I am truly blessed to have been introduced to fishing by my father at a young age.
