Join Captain Marty Staines on his 28' Weekender and allow a local, knowledgeable guide show you around and get you to the most productive fishing grounds. The boat is a solid vessel with plenty of fishing room for up to 5 anglers to reel in their catch and a strong 350 HP Mercruiser engine to cut through the waves easily.
'Stratus' has got a private toilet, as well as a galley well-suited for making complimentary tea and coffee for everyone on board. You are welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks for your adventure. She's rigged with quality navigational equipment to stay on the fish's trail, and when you get there, you'll have Shimano rods, reels, and tackle to hook your prey. After the trip, you will get your catch cleaned and bagged, all you need to do is figure out how to cook it.
On expeditions with Capt. Marty, you will mostly be chasing Rainbow Trout, as well as Brown Trout. These fish are the superstars of Lake Taupo, and if you decide to go on longer trips, you will venture further from the shore, if the weather allows. Trolling, jigging, and light tackle are the name of the game, and you will have plenty of opportunities to hone your skills in these fishing techniques.
Before you set off to enjoy Lake Taupo, you need a fishing license, and you can either buy it on land or your captain will have these available on board to complete on the day to make your life easier. We got 6 but one escaped, two were too skinny so we kept 3 for our dinner :) Captain Marty is super nice and very patient, different experience from sea water fishing, just chill on the beautiful lake!
Wir als Familie 2 Erwachsene & 2 Kinder hatten einen fantastischen Ausflug! Marty Staines war sehr angenehm und ruhig und liess auch die Kinder „Arbeiten“. 3h waren für uns Anfänger perfekt und wir konnten viele Forellen fangen und auch mitnehmen. Wwürden den Ausflug sofort wieder buchen. Vielen Dank für das tolle Erlebnis!
Marty is just the nicest skipper you could ever meet. In spite of the really windy conditions with whitecaps and significant swells,he found some more sheltered spots and I took home some very nice trout. On Marty's advice, I bought some lemon pepper and Alfoil. My wife and I are sitting recovering after a wonderful trout dinner,washed down with an excellent New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc ( our motel has a barbecue).What a day ! if you visit Taupo, this the trip for you.
We had an amazing morning with Marty, he really knows his stuff, would highly recommend him to anyone. 10 minutes into the trip hubby caught his first and they didn't stop, caught 15, had to throw 3 back but ended up with 12. Hubby was in his element and thoroughly enjoyed himself. Thanks Marty.
my son is very happy he catch 2 big fish, Captain Marty is very nice to teaching my son fishing and help us everything, today wind is strong but Captain has good experience so he know how to find fish, good good good
