Five Star Sportfishing Hawaii 

★★★★★ I have owned multiple boats and yachts over the years, including a sportfisher, a Freeman, and other offshore boats, and I have been fortunate to fish all over the world. I have fished from my own boats, private boats, and some exceptional yacht and fishing charters. I say that only because I know the difference between an average charter and a genuinely first-class offshore operation. Five Star Sport Fishing is the latter. While in Hawaii, I decided to spend a day offshore fishing with my eight-year-old son and booked with Five Star. It turned out to be one of the best decisions of our trip. Gabe, our captain, was knowledgeable, personable, and clearly knew the local fishery. Just as importantly, he and the entire crew were outstanding with my son. They made him feel comfortable, involved, and excited about the experience from beginning to end. And they put us on fish. We caught a number of quality fish on a day when we were told the rest of the charter fleet was having an extremely difficult time and many boats were coming back without fish. Anyone who spends enough time offshore knows there are no guarantees in fishing, which makes a captain and crew who can produce on a tough day all the more impressive. The boat was well maintained, the crew worked hard, and the entire operation was professional from start to finish. At the end of the trip, they filleted our catch for us, and we took some of the fresh fish to a local restaurant where it was prepared for dinner. It was the perfect ending to an exceptional day with my son. This was truly a five-star experience. As someone who fishes a great deal and has spent a lot of time around offshore boats and professional crews, I would book Five Star Sport Fishing again without hesitation. I will also be recommending Gabe and his crew to friends and colleagues traveling to Hawaii who want to experience offshore fishing the right way.

Gabe and Tino were absolutely incredible! These guys worked like a well-oiled machine from the moment we got out on the water. They were never afraid to put in the work constantly clearing lines, throwing out fresh bait, watching the birds, and doing everything they could to get us on the fish. What impressed us most was how badly they wanted us to catch fish. Honestly, I think they wanted us to catch one even more than we did! 😂 They never stopped working. You could tell they knew these waters extremely well. They were constantly reading the birds and the conditions and knew exactly what to do to get us on the fish. Once we hooked up, they were just as efficient getting everything handled on the boat while coaching us through exactly what we needed to do to land the fish. We ended the trip with FOUR mahi-mahi, and that was 100% thanks to Gabe and Tino and how hard they worked for us. If you’re looking for a crew that is actually going to WORK to put you on fish instead of just taking you for a boat ride, these are your guys. We had an awesome experience and would absolutely fish with Gabe and Tino again!

We had an incredible day on the water and landed 11 Mahi Mahi. The crew was fantastic and stayed fully committed right to the very end, constantly working to put more fish on the boat. On top of the great fishing, the boat was kept spotlessly clean the entire time, which made the whole trip even more enjoyable. Professional, hardworking crew and a top-notch vessel — highly recommend this charter if you’re looking for a memorable day of fishing.

Five Star Sport Fishing is on another level. 😂🎣 I’ve been on a LOT of charters, and these guys seriously impressed me. Captain Ruben was driving Ruckus while glassing the ocean with binoculars like he had built-in radar. I can barely use binoculars standing still without getting a headache. 😂 Captain Gabe was working the deck, and that guy can MOVE. The second they see fish, trolling gear comes down, bait rigs come out, and the whole boat changes tactics in seconds. Gabe even taught me how to set up the outriggers and explained how everything worked, which made the trip even better. Ruckus is clean, meticulously maintained, and a perfect size for the ocean. And yes… it has a refrigerator. 😂 No soggy sandwiches floating under the Gatorades. That alone deserves a star. We even had a shark come in and eat our fish. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t included in the package. 😂🦈 I also loved seeing how well Ruben and Gabe work with the other charter captains. They may be competitors, but they share information and help each other find fish. Hard-working, knowledgeable, great people, and they truly FISH.

Boat and crew were ready to go when we got there. Nice clean boat with excellent equipment. Captain Ruben, First mate Gabe and Noah were awesome!! I took my wife and three of my daughters. All three of my daughters caught amazing fish (2 striped marlin and a huge Mahi Mahi). They knew the girls were novice fisherman and were extremely helpful in landing the fish while letting the girls really soak up the experience!! They were great with the younger kids coaching them through it. I have done a lot of charter fishing and would rank this trip near the top, and the crew played a huge role in that!

Had an awesome experience with Five Star Fishing. Captain Dallas and Gabe were both incredible the entire trip — super knowledgeable, friendly, and made everything fun and easy whether you’re experienced or new to fishing. The boat was great, the atmosphere was relaxed, and they worked hard to make sure everyone had a good time and caught fish. You can tell they genuinely care about giving people a great experience. Definitely recommend booking with them if you’re looking for a top-tier fishing charter. We caught 2 mahi mahi (1 was a huge bull) and a nice spear fish. Took some work finding them, but they never gave up and we were rewarded for it. Great trip overall.

My family and I were in O‘ahu for a family wedding. We researched and booked a month prior when we knew we'd have some time and my sons (13, 15) are passionate fishermen. We live / fish on the east coast (NJ, DE) inshore, reef, party boats, family boats and shore / freshwater - but the boys have had a few big offshore trips and really wanted to fish the deep waters off the island. This was an extremely hard-working crew and very knowledgeable. Consistently covering water in rough seas, following bird activity and other signs. We ultimately had a very steady day covering miles of water with probably 10 hookups (Mahi) and several Wahoo on the way back to the marina. They consistently changed patterns on the spread, monitored lines, gave great instruction to the boys. Both had the thrill of their fishing lives bringing some big Mahi on the boat and the Wahoo were added bonus. As an experienced angler myself and frequent charter customer, this is a very competent and knowledgeable crew. Can't recommend enough. If you have kids recommend the 6 hour option - this is a deep, deep water pelagic fishery. At times the fishing can be sporadic as there's simply so much to cover. 6 hours gives ample time for action without wearing out the kids. The boys are already planning their return back!

This was me and my wife first time visiting Hawaii and our first big game charter. We decided to go with a whole day trip 8hrs package. What a way to celebrate my 40th birthday. Captain Rubin, deckhand Gabe was able to find bait fish and lead us to catching our first Mahi Mahi n Wahoo (Ono). I also caught my pb Mahi Mahi. Great guys very knowledgeable. We had an awesome experience on five star sports fishing vessel. Highly recommend for anyone trying to land trophy fish of a lifetime or just out for the thrill n fight. They also recommend a taxidermist so I can mount my lifetime dream catch on my wall.

I’ve been on a few charters back at home in Australia one in Bali and one in Fiji. All the promises in the world were made nothing delivered. Went on this fishing trip Gabe was extremely knowledgeable more than happy to pass on his knowledge to a part-time angler. Told the captain when I got on my dream was to catch a marlin and a mahi-mahi. Got the mahi-mahi early bit of a slow day which you can’t help but kept the lines in the water all the way back and on the return trip to the dock got the Marlin. We ended up staying at an hour overtime due to catching the Marlin not a complaint was made the boys were fantastic. Highly recommend these guys. Thanks again, fellas. You made a good day great.

Great full day charter with Captain Gabe and First Mate Mike aboard the Ruckus. They were able to put us on the fish quickly with a large Mahi being boated first. This was shortly followed up with a double header of Striped Marlin which were both boated and then yet another double header of Mahi (also boated!). We rounded off the day with 3 more Mahi for a total of 6 Mahi and 2 Marlin. The crew, the boat and the experience was A+. I’ve done multiple chartered trips previously and this was right up there with the best. Thank you Five Star Fishing, Captain Gabe, First Mate Mike and Hawaii for treating us to an unforgettable experience.
