Captain Jose is best known for landing a massive 480-pound swordfish—one of the most memorable catches recorded in the Lower Florida Keys. His specialty is daytime swordfishing, targeting trophy broadbill swordfish in depths ranging from approximately 600 to 1,600 feet.

Guests can also book offshore fishing charters targeting mahi-mahi, blackfin tuna, wahoo, sailfish, and kingfish. Reef and wreck trips may target yellowtail snapper, mutton snapper, mangrove snapper, grouper, hogfish, amberjack, and other seasonal species. Seasonal Florida Keys lobster charters are also available.

Captain Jose and his crew did an amazing job! The weather and wave conditions were very difficult to fish in and Captain Jose still helped us land multiple sailfish in conditions when just anout any other captain would struggle. He kept us safe snd engaged the entire trip and I would highly reccomend.

I’ve spent most of my life on the water in the Florida Keys. As a commercial fisherman, I learned these waters by working them: paying attention to the tides, weather, seasons, and the small details that can make all the difference in a day of fishing. That life shaped our family, too. I raised my son, Captain Jose Jr., around boats and fishing. Today, we’re both captains with Above & Below Fishing Adventures. Jose Jr. has built his reputation chasing Swordfish, while my heart is on the reefs and wrecks. I enjoy putting guests on Yellowtail, Snapper, Grouper, and whatever else the season and conditions give us a chance to pursue. My favorite trips aren’t measured only by what ends up in the cooler. I love seeing a kid catch their first fish, helping someone learn a new technique, and watching friends and families enjoy being out on the water together. If you’ve fished your whole life, we can get straight to it. If it’s your first time, I’ll gladly show you the ropes. I captain a 32-foot SeaVee equipped with a Seakeeper stabilizer, giving guests a more comfortable day aboard. Whether we leave from the Lower Keys or the Key West area, my goal is the same: work hard, take good care of your crew, and share the Keys with you the way I know them.
