If you’re up for a fishing adventure in the rich waters of Oregon in the Nehalem area, Pacific Roots Adventures is the best choice! Captain Kyle Uptegrove has been fishing the rivers here for over 20 years, so you can be sure that he knows all the best fishing spots.

Explore the natural world on the 17’ Fishcraft drift boat. The boat is perfect for exploring these freshwater areas, and you’ll surely enjoy your time on board while floating down these rivers. Depending on the conditions and the size of your group, you may also fish from the Capt. Kyle’s 23’ Alumaweld Columbia.

Capt. Kyle will have Shimano, Daiwa, and Lamiglass equipment for you, and you’ll use either live bait or artificial lures. Make sure to buy a fishing license before the trip. If you have a productive day and want to take some fish home for dinner, the captain will be happy to clean and fillet your catch.

You can go on a crabbing expedition with Capt. Kyle and look for some delicious Dungeness crabs! On other trips, you’ll do some drift fishing, trolling, and spinning for Salmon and Steelhead. Feel free to bring your kids, since there’s no minimum age on this charter. There are life jackets for everyone, so you can relax and make some great family memories!

There will be coffee on board, but make sure to bring some food and drinks so you can stay refreshed throughout the day. You should dress according to the weather, and bring adequate rain gear.

Great first experience for grandson!

We booked this trip with Captain Kyle to kick-start a birthday adventure on the Oregon coast for our 16 year old grandson, who lives in Minnesota and has shown a recent keen interest in fishing. Under Captain Kyle all five of us in the boat reeled in a nice chinook salmon within 3-1/2 hours. After more enjoyable days of crabbing and deep-sea fishing elsewhere, our grandson stated that his favorite part of the birthday adventure was reeling in that chinook salmon! No doubt this experience will be forever remembered.

Fun Fishing with Captain Kyle

My 13 year-old grandson and I booked this trip as part of an annual vacation. This morning, he had never caught a fish. This afternoon he is basking in the sunlight of success. :-). It was a beautiful day and a wonderful experience for us both. Captain Kyle was patient and personable. He did a great job guiding our group and engaging with us along the way. We are already talking about next year.

Took my son (11) out with me on Kyle’s boat for salmon fishing in Nehalem Bay. We were paired up with another small group and had great success finding Chinook. Would highly recommend Kyle as a guide.

Nicest guide on the Nehalem River

Kyle set the tone of the fishing trip from the beginning of day with his humor and charm and that allowed all the boat’s passengers to enjoy not only the great fishing but also each other’s company. Even during a difficult situation caused by no one’s fault but perhaps a smart fish all our poles got tangled up and as a team we were quickly able to disentangle them as we already were happy with the tone of the fishing trip. We each caught a fish as well, allowing each other to share the rods that had a fish on.
