Captain Javier Silva has been spearfishing for 30 years and prides himself on running fun, safe spearfishing trips in the warm waters around Playa Del Carmen. You'll be visiting one of the world's largest reef systems to go face-to-face with delicious fish under the watchful eye of a professional instructor.
Your vessel for the day is a 26' Imemsa boat with room aboard for up to 8 spearfishers. She is equipped with a full array of safety equipment and a range of quality spearfishing gear. Capt. Javi can also bring conventional tackle for an additional fee if you want to make your trip even more productive.
The day starts with an introduction to the equipment and the techniques. Once you've got the hang of working a speargun, you will be taken out to target anything from Hogfish and Snapper to Mahi Mahi and Wahoo. Complete beginners to seasoned spearos are welcome aboard, and Capt. Javi will tailor each trip to your experience and ability.
All Arpon Spearfishing trips come with everything you will need for the fishing itself, although you are welcome to bring your own gear along, too. At the end of the day, Capt. Javi can even teach you how to clean and fillet your catch if you're interested. He sees every trip as a learning experience and every client as a fisherman or woman in the making.
And if you want to enjoy your fish right away, you can even visit Capt. Javi's restaurant, La Caleta, where your catch will be cooked up fresh from the ocean. This is the perfect end to a half-day trip or a great break in the middle of a full day. These guys have thought of everything so you don't have to. So climb aboard, jump in, and get ready for a very special charter.

Captain and in-water guide were great. Very patient with our big group of youngsters. And to top it off, they cooked our kill at their restaurant that same evening. Highly recommend if you're comfortable free diving.
Even though we didn't find a ton of fish they worked hard to find them and we did get them. Highly recommend this fun group of guys, you can tell they love what they do. Make you feel relaxed and definitely go through the tips of free diving. Also highly recommend getting your fish cooked at the restaurant. Amazing…Would never have thought of using barracuda as ceviche. They cooked the hoghead fish fried and grilled. The experience and the meal afterwards was a highlight of our trip to Mexico. Would highly recommend!

The weather was less than ideal the week we came to playa del Carmen for vacation. Javier contacted us to reschedule to a time that would have less current and more visibility. Javier was a great instructor and very patient. This was a first time for my 15 year old son and I. The fresh fish afterwards was the best meal of the trip. It was hard work but so much fun. I can't wait to try again next year.
If you want the best experience of your life...then look no further. It looks easier than it actually is, but Javier and Frankie can create success and fun for the most memorable trip. Our expectations were blown out of the water (pun intended.) It's not just the encounter of free diving and spearfishing, but the personal connection and amazing after-fishing cooking/eating that completes the whole experience. Our party enjoyed the connection with the guides as much as the fishing. We most definitely would book our outing with Arpon again!
I had an amazing time on this trip! The staff are amazing, caring, and extremely knowledgeable about their spearfishing. Safety was a high priority, and I felt totally comfortable after all of their in depth instructions. I didn't get to spear a fish, but the trip was still fun and very memorable! Highly recommend this trip even if you have never spearfished before!
