Trout Fishing North Georgia

Curtis Switch
Blue Ridge GA, United States

Guests enjoy fishing for trout from the comfortable Aluminum frame that sits atop two, 16-foot Aire pontoons.  Not only is the boat more stable than conventional hard drift boats and dories, it’s also a better platform for older folks and kids to fish from. Half and full day float trips on the Toccoa River, near Blue Ridge, GA are offered.  I offer both fly-fishing and light spinning gear on every trip.

While I don’t have the luxury of guiding every single day, it’s safe to say that living just minutes from the river that I get the chance to fish the river just about every day for some amount of time. I’ve built much of my word of mouth business on the simple fact that I’m likely the only person who fishes the Toccoa more than 280 days a year. After discovering guide work in the saltwater in college, beginning to guide on the river after college was a natural transition.

For me, the best part of my job is giving my clients the opportunity to experience the stunning beauty of the Toccoa and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains while landing some Trout too. There’s nothing better than watching a client hook, land and release a trophy Trout from my boat! I’ve often been accused of getting more excited than the clients themselves when they hook up on a big fish. It’s truly more exciting to me to see clients get a good fish than it is for me to do so myself.

Fish range anywhere from 8 to 14-inches long on average, with any given day’s “big fish” typically pushing 20-inches or more.

Trips are limited to two anglers per boat. However, multi-boat trips are often and easily arranged for parties over two anglers.

All rods, reels, flies, lures, tackle and other fishing gear is furnished for guests.

I've always fished for anything I could get to bite as long as I can remember. As I grew older, the need to fish only grew more and more. While at USF in Tampa, I got my first taste of taking clients fishing and loved the feeling it gave me.

Captain Joe has the experience on the river that allows you the best chance of getting all you want. He not only does not mind helping but he wants to. He states that that is what he is there for. We learned about the trout and how to look for areas in which to catch them even if we were not with him and wanted to fish again. He did an excellent job and I would certainly go with him again. Having fresh trout for our fourth of July dinner for a whole family was great!

Joe is a great guide. Not only is he incredibly informed: he is a great teacher. He knows every drift in the river and where the fish stack up. We learned lessons that will last a lifetime and had a great time doing it. I look forward to my next trip.
