Captain John was outstanding. I had told him beforehand that my 14 year old grandson was really interested in catching redfish. Although we were catching black drum at two different spots, Captain John kept moving until he found a spot where the red’s were biting. My grandson ended up with a 28” redfish!! It was a perfect day - we strongly recommend Captain John and look forward to fishing with him in the future!

I’ve been on two trips with Captain John and all were great. He’s very knowledgeable about all aspects of fishing. We have a great day on the water. He goes to the most pristine places and we put a limit or trout in the box along with a large black drum. We also caught an oversized red fish that was released.

John is warm, funny and patient. His boat and tackle are top notch. He’s my guide from now on. Thanks John. Hope to be back soon

Our family (my husband, our 10 & 12 year old sons, and myself) went out with Captain John and had a wonderful experience. John called ahead of the trip to go over everything, which was helpful, gave us clear directions for how to get to the boat, and answered all my questions. The boat was simple, clean, with padded seats, and had storage compartments for our bags and stuff, so great for out in the bay. John was funny, friendly, and so patient with our boys (& us 😆). Our 12 year old broke his arm before our trip, I had let John know, and he switched the reels so our kid could use his other and showed him how to brace it differently. Our 10 year old asked him so many questions and John was patient and answered all of them! He showed our boys casting tricks and gave them fishing tips, he let them help get the live bait out, told us facts about the different fish and the area. Our boys and us had a blast and would totally got out fishing again with John and highly recommend him!

Weather down here in S. Texas been pretty steamy. Even with that able to catch some fish before things got too hot. Capt Wood was extremely knowledgeable with the bay and where to go looking for the fish. I think he enjoyed baiting the hooks as much as I did. I think the 2nd spot we stopped, the fish got hungry. We started bring up gafftops and trout pretty regularly. Just as we started getting some keepers, the dolphins came in said we’ll take you throwbacks. They pretty much followed us around as we looked for the school we had found. I looked for the speargun but none was found. I was kinda informed of a few of rules out there… lol. We headed in cause it was getting pretty hot. But, the trip was a resounding success. My 2 kids who hadn’t fished since the were little caught multiple fish. My daughter’s friend whom had never fished caught the first and the most of the 4 of us. I was content with just sitting there with my pole in the water but caught some also. It was peaceful and frantic at the same time. I will be booking with Capt Wood again when things cool down. You can’t beat his knowledge, personal skills, and you can just feel his enjoyment when he’s on the water. Plus, we didn’t have to bring anything other than ourselves and some food and drink for the trip. Hats off to Capt Wood!!
