Capt. Brian Patteson’s Stormy Petrel II is the only fishing vessel at the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center that is certified by the USCG to legally carry more than 6 passengers for hire and that regularly offers private fishing charters. As such, you can bring your entire family along to enjoy a wonderful fishing adventure off the Outer Banks!

The Stormy Petrel II is a 56’ walk-around design, a stable boat with far more deck space than most charter fishing vessels. As such, you have a big advantage when it comes to bottom fishing and as we can easily fish a dozen rods or more off one side of the boat. Her 16’ beam also means more room across the stern for trolling, which is nice when a school of Mahi comes up behind the boat. There’s also a spacious top deck where guests can take a break or go up and help spot fish. Captain Brian limits offshore trips to 12 passengers and nearshore trips to 20 passengers so that we can provide plenty of space and minimize tangled lines.

The boat’s twin 500 HP Cummins QSC 8.3 liter diesel engines were installed in 2017 and they give a comfortable cruising speed of 16 to 18 knots, with more power in reserve should we need it. Common rail fuel injection makes for clean burning engines with very little fumes.

We offer three types of trips. Our offshore trips are strictly private 10 to 11 hour charters and go to the Gulf Stream. On these trips, both bottom fishing and surface trolling can be productive depending on the conditions. Our 4 hour nearshore trips go to the ocean waters just off the beach and or in the sound depending on the sea conditions. On most of these trips, you’ll be on the ocean trolling small spoons for Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel, and sometimes we might drift for bottom fish and or sharks.

You need to bring your food and drinks, but we have the fishing covered.

Great early season trip!
4 Hr Midday Hatteras Inlet on April 23, 202610 adults2 children

We had a fantastic experience fishing out of Hatteras aboard the Stormy Petrel II with Capt. Brian and first mate Danny. They did an incredible job taking care of our large group and made the whole trip smooth, fun, and stress-free. The boat itself was sturdy, clean, and very well maintained — we felt comfortable the entire time. Even being early in the season, they put us right on the fish. We caught plenty of bluefish and had a blast doing it! Danny was great about helping everyone out, keeping lines in the water, and making sure we were all having a good time. You can really tell they know what they’re doing and take pride in giving people a great experience. Highly recommend — we’d absolutely book with them again!

This was a wonderful family trip with all the guys. Our boys had a great experience. I called several boats trying to accommodate everyone and yours was the only one that would or could. So thank you!

Good Trip
4 Hr Early AM from Oregon Inlet on July 9, 20266 adults1 child

Late summer months are always hard fishing. Captain Brian and 1st mate Danny worked hard to keep us on fish. The first two gours the bite was crazy. Fish after fish on the lines. Last two hours as the sun got higher and the tempature rose the bite slowed way down but we still caught some fish. We ended up with 19 Spanish Mackerols. It was a fun morning on the water.

Captain Brian grew up inland but started making trips to the Outer Banks back in the 80s and soon developed an interest in fishing and all sorts of marine life, especially seabirds. This led to working as a deckhand on a variety of vessels for over a decade. He feels fortunate to work with some of the best captains in the area as a mate. In 2005, the captain purchased his first charter boat and just a year later he was able to upgrade to his current vessel. The Stormy Petrel II has served the company's needs well for over 15 years now, and the crew looks forward to seeing you aboard.
