Capt. John’s Fin-tastic Charters

1618 Route 1
Grand Isle LA, United States

Capt. John, the owner/ operator of Capt John’s Fin-tastic Charters, provides his clients with a fun, friendly and professional atmosphere. He has fished the Louisiana saltwaters for over 30 years and specializes in inshore and coastal fishing. From the inshore marsh and bays, to the coastal beaches and reefs, Capt John targets Speckled Trout, Redfish, Flounder, Bull Reds, Snapper, Cobia or any other species you request to fish for that are in season.

Every morning, Capt John loads the boat with plenty of fuel, ice, fresh caught live bait, rod & reels and tackle. The type of live bait used will depend on the species targeted, but mainly will consist of live shrimp, minnows or croakers. The clients meet him at the marina, where they are greeted and escorted to the boat to load their personal items. The boat, a comfortable 25’ Sea Chaser LX Bay Runner, departs from the marina at safe light and returns from the trip no later than 2:00 PM. The catch is professionally cleaned and fillets are bagged for the clients’ journey home.

Capt John provides clients with rod & reels along with a clean ice chest to hold their food and drinks while on board, but if you prefer to bring your own rod and reels or ice chest, you’re more than welcome to do so.

Please note that clients are responsible for their own Louisiana saltwater fishing license. Once you have booked your trip you can contact the captain for instructions on how to obtain this. Don’t forget to bring proper clothing for the weather conditions, your own food, snacks and drinks, sun screen and insect repellent and your own means of transporting fillets home (an ice box/ bag is ideal).

While Capt. John does not provide accommodations, he is happy to give advice about options in the area on request.

I have fished with several different guides all over the US and Mexico. Capt. John was the best by far. His equipment is top notch and his knowledge of the area was also spot on. My wife and I had a great time.

Only because of horrible easterly winds kept this trip from being perfect, don’t know why Captain John can’t control the weather..

That is so true Mr Mark. Unfortunately I have yet to harness the power to control mother nature. The winds were blowing in the morning at a steady 15-20mph and increasing to a steady 20-25. But despite the odds, yall still managed to catch over 40 trout with 20 keepers, and a couple of beautiful reds. I want to thank yall for a fun trip and hope Y’all have a wonderful stay in Grand Isle. You and your family were a pleasure to fish with.

This morning we loaded the boat and headed out at our usual time of 5:30 to get a jump on the early morming bite. We took a anxious 10 min ride to the stomping grounds. It was non-stop action… Read Full Report →
