Marina Pez Vela
Quepos, PU, Costa Rica

Running angling trips out of Quepos in Marina Pez Vela with a safe parking and all the confort of a luxury marina.  Idra Sportfishing Inshore Specialist invites you to discover everything this top-notch fishing destination has in store for you!

Capt. Ricardo is here to get you on some fish and make great memories together. He specializes in inshore fishing with live bait, which will be caught during the trip. You'll be using techniques like trolling, jigging, popping, and spinning, depending on what you're going after. As part of their 4 to 8-hour trips, you can target species like Mahi Mahi, Roosterfish, Snook, Snapper, Spanish Mackerel, and Tripletail, depending on the current season and weather conditions.

Your boat for the day will be a 27' Costa Boat that fits up to 4 anglers at any time. The boat comes with a toilet and ice box. The price of your trip includes all the rods, reels, and terminal tackle you'll need for a productive day on the water. Fishing licenses aren't included, so make sure to get them prior to the trip. You can buy them at the marina (17 USD per person) and they are valid for a week.

You can keep anything you catch as long as it's legal to do so. Keep in mind that Roosterfish is "catch and release" only. There will be a first mate on board to help you with anything you need. Tips for good service are always appreciated.

The boat will be supplied with snacks, and drinks for your pleasure, be sure to let the captain know if you have any questions or want to bring your own.
This is a children-friendly charter, so you're welcome to bring your kids on for a fun fishing adventure.

Book your trip now and hit the water with Idra Sportfishing Inshore Specialist.

2 Days of Non Stop Action
Full Day Trip – Inshore on February 26, 20252 adults
We had a great time with Captain Ricardo and Carlos. We booked two full day trips with them as our main goal in Costa Rica was to catch a rooster fish. Our first day out we had a lot of hook ups on possible rooster fish and we landed a nice one and a very large surprise snook. After that we changed spots and caught a variety of species jack crevalle, big eye jack, cubera snappers, rainbow runners and blue runners. We caught multiple "fish of a lifetime" on this trip and the action was nonstop it was one of the best days of fishing we ever had. Our second day we targeted roosters in the morning again and ended up with 4 on the boat and even more hook ups and a nice jack crevalle. Once we both had the rooster fish we were looking for (and even a double rooster!) we went in search of more snappers where we had lots of hook ups and got two nice ones in the boat. It was such a great time and I would highly recommend fishing with Captain Ricardo and Carlos, they are fish whisperers and are great at what they do. If you are looking for action you definitely want to fish with these guys, it's non stop season! Can't wait to come back and try for a triple tail!

BIG rooster fish on TOPWATER POPPER
3/4 Day Trip – Inshore on January 11, 2025
We started the day with the goal of catching a big rooster fish on the top water popper, and Captain Riccardo knew right where to take us! I had fished for rooster fish in the waters around capos every year for four years in a row, but this was the best charter I have had there! Shortly after arriving at the first stop, we raised multiple large rooster fish on the popper (something I hadn't seen there in all of the previous trips I've taken!). When the first one connected both, he and I went absolutely berserk with excitement and I was beyond pumped to land one of my biggest roosters ever on a topwater plug! His passion for the sport is top-notch and I am super stoked to get back down there and fish with him again next month. See you soon Captain!

5 Hour Trip – Inshore on January 3, 20252 adults2 children
While searching for a guide for a near shore fishing trip with my family I found Capt. Ricardo Puliti and the Idra II of Quepos. After booking a trip online I was promptly contacted by Ricardo so that he could better understand the group ( my two grandchildren, my son, and me -- fishing skills from beginner to experienced) as well as our goals for the trip. Having read several articles about the roosterfish endemic to Costa Rica’s Pacific coast, I asked that we spend at least some of the trip focusing on this beautiful and challenging fish. I did not disclose that I am a retired saltwater flyfishing guide to encourage that even the most basic advice would be given during our trip. On the day of our trip we headed down the coast to a spot close to the surf and bordered by the mouths of two rivers where Capt. Ricardo and Carlos had found roosterfish on previous trips. Almost immediately my nine year old granddaughter landed our first rooster. Within the first hour we had six bites, lost one, and everyone had landed a fish! As the tide changed we encountered a dry spell in which the only excitement came from a small hammerhead shark that showed up for a photo prior to its release. After the tide receded further we got a strike that Ricardo and Carlos immediately recognized as a large roosterfish. While Carlos backed the boat, Ricado coached me while I fought the fish on a short saltwater rod and barrel reel with which my experience is relatively limited. After ten minutes of muscle tiring back and forth battle we landed a sixty inch behemoth! High fives and hugs around, a photo op, and we returned our roosterfish to hopefully foster many offspring. Did great job on a less than ideal day
5 Hour Trip – Inshore on April 13, 20252 adults
Ricardo did a very professional job of getting us on fish on a pretty bumpy half day. We had to run north for bait and it was too rough to try roosters there. Plan B we ran to the fish farm and were able to tangle with some nice Jacks. We left there and ran south to try to get a Rooster fish. I was fortunate to catch a nice one before we called it a day. The boat was well kept and captain and mate worked hard to get us our fish. I'd highly recommend booking with Idra.

Wildly productive day on the water
Half day inshore afternoon on January 3, 20252 adults
Captain Ricardo is a fish whisperer! We caught 15 different species of fish today, from Roosterfish and rainbow runner to starry grouper and pacific creole fish. This team knows their waters and how to have fun. First mate Carlos is formerly a commercial fisherman and his depth of experience helped make the trip amazing. We also happened across a pair of humpback whales and they breached, it was an incredible experience to see. Would recommend highly.
