There’s a fish with your name on it in Quepos and Wahoo Sport Fishing Quepos will help you catch it! With Captain Melvin at the helm, you’re in knowledgeable and experienced hands.
Top targets include Amberjack, Pacific Barracuda, Mahi Mahi, Broomtail Grouper, Blue Marlin, Black Marlin, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Roosterfish, Snook, and more if conditions allow. You can expect to do some spinning, popping, trolling, drifting, jigging, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area. Capt. Melvin also offers fly fishing, but you may need to bring your own fly gear. For the more adventurous among you, there’s spearfishing.
Capt. Melvin believes in teaching kids to fish while they’re young, so go ahead and bring the whole family along! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board. Snacks are also a good idea to stay fueled throughout your trip!
Capt. Melvin runs a 24’ Center console with space for 4 passengers. It has all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. Capt. Melvin will supply rods and reels for you, along with lures. Live bait is available, but it’s good to ask about this so you know if you’ll be catching it yourself.
There will be a First Mate on board to help your trip run smoothly. It’s customary to tip the Mate 10–20% to show your appreciation.
Before coming aboard, you may be required to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
It’s never a bad idea to bring sunglasses, sunscreen (non-spray), and a hat. There will be some drinks on offer, but let the captain know if you wish to bring your own. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, so long as you avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. There will be food and some light snacks included on board.
