captain and first mate were top notch. Ive taken guided trips in Florida, Texas, Alaska, California, and Boston — and i put him at the top. why? hes relaxed, flexible, hard working, good with kids, and wants to put you on fish. he allowed me to bring my own tackle, and i appreciated his flexibility in tailoring the trip exactly as i requested. we had 4 kids along, and we caught so many fish they got tired of reeling them in. The best part of the day for me personally was taking a 118” sailfish with a travel rod and a 3500 reel. it was a spectacular day we will never forget. i cannot thank Captain enough. he is truly special at what he does and truly cares about your experience on the water.

This was easily one of the best fishing experiences I’ve ever had. The two-man crew was outstanding — knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely friendly from start to finish. They knew exactly where to go, how to read the water, and worked incredibly well together. Their expertise showed immediately when we started hooking fish. Within a few hours, I had crossed two major bucket-list species off my list: two beautiful sailfish and over a dozen mahi mahi. The sailfish fights were spectacular — exactly what I’d hoped for. The crew’s coaching and quick action on the boat made sure I landed both of them safely. The mahi mahi bite was nonstop at times, and the colors on these fish are just insane in person. We had constant action, laughs, and perfect weather to top it all off. Everything was top-notch: the boat was clean and well-equipped, the tackle was high-quality, and the crew made sure I felt safe and comfortable the entire day. They were prepared for some epic photos for me too. If you’re thinking about going fishing in Costa Rica, book this charter without hesitation. Took my kids (14,8) on their first fishing 1/2 day inshore trip (with some snorkelling). José was awesome, patient and helpful with the kids and knowledgeable. We boated to 4 different locations and caught smaller mahi mahi and jack fish and was great for the kids to reel in their own fish. The snorkelling part wasn't great that day due to wavy conditions and murky water but got to see some fish. Kids said they would have rather fished for that extra time instead of snorkelling in those conditions, something to consider the day of fishing. Overall a great experience!

From start to finish, Jose and his crew were amazing! They are very hospitable, kind, and caring. The trip was a special request from my 12-year-old son, and they delivered! They put us on 3 sailfish, and then finished off the trip by helping us get some Mahi Mahi to take home for ceviche. We caught 4 Mahi in less than 10 minutes to cap a perfect trip. We will definitely book again with Hidalgo Sportfishing next time we're in Costa Rica.

We had an amazing days fishing with Jose and the captains mate. Nothing was too much trouble. Great food and drink on the boat and a lovely friendly atmosphere! Caught a sailfish, which was an amazing creature to see, made our day, and was down to the local knowledge and experience of Jose and mate who worked tirelessly all day to maximise every chance of catching. To top the day off and on the way back to port we had a boat stop to do snorkelling and saw some amazing marine fish! Would recommend these guys every time! Made a day to remember for us and will definitely return to them to do the inshore trip to catch a rooster fish! ❤️😊.
