Nuj Kay - Kaan Kun Fishing
Booked with us before? You may qualify for a Loyalty Discount. Sign in to check.
Spend the day with Nuj Kay and let them show you what makes fishing in Cancún so memorable! With Captain Hugo at the helm, you're in knowledgeable and experienced hands.
Depending on the season, you might hook into Great Barracuda, Amberjack, Mahi Mahi, Gag Grouper, Bonito, White Marlin, Sailfish, Mutton Snapper, Sierra Mackerel, Blackfin Tuna, Gray Triggerfish, Wahoo, and whatever else takes the bait. You'll target your catch by light tackle fishing, trolling, jigging, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area.
If you're traveling with the family, you will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! If you don't have a child-sized life vest of your own, be sure to ask if there's one on board. Also, remember to bring snacks so that nobody gets cranky on an empty belly!
You'll be casting lines from a 23' Wellcraft offshore sport fishing vessel that can carry up to 4 passengers. It has outriggers, downriggers, a fighting chair, and all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. Capt. Hugo has rods and reels for you, along with lures. Live bait is on offer, but you should ask the captain whether you'll be catching it yourself.
You'll have the help of a First Mate to put you on fish. Mates often work for tips and it's customary to offer them a 10–20% tip.
You might need to purchase a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
Some essentials to bring are sunblock (non-spray), and sunglasses. There will be some drinks on offer, but let the captain know if you wish to bring your own. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, so long as you avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

I cannot say enough positive things about this experience, but I’ll try my hardest. We were warmly greeted at the marina by Captain Hugo, and shown to the Nuj Kay consisting of Captain Alex and First Mate Luis. I was joined by my wife and two sons, aged 10 and 9, and we were well taken care of by these experts throughout the duration of our day with them. Firstly, I must call out the professionalism of both Captain Alex and Luis. They are some of the hardest working individuals I’ve personally encountered. Luis was especially hard at work the entire day. These men love to fish, and are excited to help you try to obtain your desired catch. While we spent an hour or so getting to our fishing spot for trolling, First Mate Luis spent his time telling us the history of Isla Mujeres while baiting hooks. Once we dropped lines, we didn’t go a twenty minute period throughout the day without getting fish on hooks, and even included twice at the same time which made for some fun battling and minor logistical challenges to avoid crossing lines. Today, tuna was extra hungry, and we were able to come away with four - one for each of us, with a dorado escaping shortly after setting the hook. The real prize came ten minutes after our fourth tuna when a sailfish decided to join the party. This was a trophy fish for me personally, and Captain Alex and Luis did everything in their power to help me reel it in successfully, from coaching, encouragement, and proper boat handling required for a successful battle. I’m thankful for their expertise because I was successful catching an 87” sailfish that I happily will have taxidermied for display. It was an incredible day and I fully recommend the Nuj Kay for your fishing trip. The boat is not luxurious (but absolutely capable - beverages provided, toilet access, etc), but I knew that before booking and trusted the reviews on this website and others recommending Nuj Kay, and I’m so glad I did!

This was my second trip with this charter, and once again they exceeded every expectation. This time was even more special because it was my son’s very first offshore fishing trip, and he absolutely crushed it by catching three tuna! Watching him reel in those fish made memories that will last a lifetime. My brother also landed a beautiful mahi mahi, and the crew worked hard from start to finish to keep us on the fish. We also brought in barracuda and bonito. The service was outstanding, the captain knew exactly where to go, and the entire experience was professional, fun, and stress free. What really earned my loyalty happened on my first trip. The captain stayed out longer than scheduled to make sure I had the opportunity to get on a fish. That level of dedication is hard to find and says everything about how much they care about their customers having a great experience. I highly recommend this charter to anyone, whether it’s your first trip or you’re an experienced angler. We’ll definitely be booking again very soon!
At first we were surprised that we couldn't park there, but finally they let us park. Meaning I would recommend going by taxi/bus/uber to have this peace of mind. We also found out that there is about 60USD fees for fishing and marina licenses, plus a 5% over everything fee if you pay by card. You save that 5% by paying cash. We then went on the boat and drove for about an hour to the fishing spot. Captain Alex and first mate Angel were very friendly and knew what they were doing. I had sea sickness, but still enjoyed every minute of my experience because right when we put the lines in the water, we caught an awesome sailfish followed by an awesome wahoo a few minutes after. We came for big game and that's what we got. We could keep the wahoo to eat, but needed to release the sailfish if you don't want to taxidermize it. After only about 2 hours of fishing we decided to come back due to sea sickness so it was about 4h30 overall but still worth it. Thanks again for the great fishes!
We had an absolutely amazing day out today with Alex and his first mate. Mahi Mahi , Baracuda, Sailfish (we op-ed to release this guy) and 2 that were just too smart for this occasional fisher to not snap the line. Amazing prices especially for a little private boat. The boat is not shiny and new but I also didn't pay an exorbitant amount to be in a shiny new one. Now the docking companies dock looks a little sketch but it held up well to my short plump self. Can't wait to use these guys again. Ps please keep in mind its $20 per person dock and license fee at the dock. Still an amazing deal for 6 hours of fun.(minus the 2 feeding the fish breaks I needed to take 🤢🤣) They asked if we wanted our fish cleaned and pointed us to the restaurant that would have cooked for us. we op-ed out.

The experience was great, the captain and the first mate were fantastic and hard-working and they did everything to catch the fish. We had a 4 hour afternoon attempt, including trolling and spot fishing using different lures and methods. The weather was a little sub par, but the captain was up front about it and showed everything about it on the app. I guess we didn't get as lucky as some but we did score four smaller barracudas and medium sized Jack. The weather wasn't that great but we were fully informed before we make a decision to go out. The captain personally fillet our fish and offered to make ceviche. We decided to use the restaurant at the Admiral marina however that felt as a complete rip off as they charged us $70+ USD for very small amount of food. But that's a different story. The fishing tour was fantastic, right on the money and 100% recommended! The captain even gifted us 2 fancy fishing shirts for me and my father with a ship name and Mexican flag on them.
