We are a Professional and affordable family friendly charter service located in Jacksonville, Florida and surrounding areas.

Your safety is our number one concern! All of our gear and safety equipment is USCG certified and up to date and we are USCG licensed and insured.

We offer light tackle 'INSHORE' fishing trips in the St. Johns River and along miles of green/gold grass in our beautiful backcountry tributaries.

The St. Johns River is an ancient intercoastal lagoon system, which gets its tea color from tannins, a natural color caused by decaying plant material. As sea levels dropped, barrier islands became an obstacle that prevented water from flowing east to the ocean. The water collected in the flat valley and slowly meandered northward, forming the St. Johns River.

Tannic Water Adventures is a member of the Maritime Drug Testing Consortium and we are a 100% Drug-Free vessel.

We specialize in Family Fun Adventures that include light tackle fishing trips for Redfish, Trout, and Flounder and other seasonal species.

Tannic Water Adventures can accommodate any trip to fit your needs within reason.

With Tannic Water Adventures you will get a Captain with over 40 years of St. John's River Knowledge that is USCG Certified and is the owner and operator, not a subcontracted Captain.

Our Vessel is the 24' Lake And Bay boat that is designed and built to handle the rough bay and nearshore waters of the St. John's River and the Atlantic Ocean with comfort and style. With a draft of only 13 inches of water, the modified VEE hull with an 8'6'' beam creates a stable, spacious platform for fishing or enjoying the day on the water with friends and family powered by the reliable Yamaha engine.

Amazing experience with captain Austin
3/4 Day Adventure A.M on October 30, 20252 adults

Our experience with captain Austin at tannic water adventures was an absolute 10/10! Everything about our trip was perfect captain Austin was incredibly patient and extremely knowledgeable about all of the species we caught and the water way we fished as a whole. Within the first 10 minutes of fishing we had 3 fish in the boat and it didn’t stop there as we caught over 20 plus fish through the corse of the day. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Tannic water adventures for absolutely anyone wanting a peaceful trip full of fish from anyone if you’ve been fishing your whole life or never touched a rod before we will definitely be booking with him again in the future !

Response from Captain

Thank you so much, Chase! I really appreciate you taking the time to leave such an awesome review. It was a blast having you guys on the water, and I’m glad the fish were fired up from the start! You both did a great job out there, and I’m looking forward to another round next time you’re back out — we’ll see if we can beat that 20+ fish day! 🎣 - Captain Austin

Austin delivers again :)
Half Day Adventure A.M on April 4, 20262 adults

My son Brandon with Down syndrome and I have fished with Austin a handful of times and we have enjoyed our trip each time. He is very helpful and Brandon thinks he is cool. We will fish with Austin whenever he is available, and we are in town from California. I recommend Austin without reservation. Can't wait to fish with him again. PS: Brandon caught the biggest fish of his life on our recent trip. A very nice Redfish. Tim

Response from Captain

Tim, this truly means more than you know—thank you for such a kind and thoughtful review. Getting to spend time on the water with you and Brandon has been an absolute privilege. Brandon is an awesome young man, and seeing his excitement and confidence grow each trip is exactly why I love what I do. That big redfish he landed is something I won’t forget anytime soon—what a moment. I’m really grateful you continue to choose to fish with me, especially coming all the way from California. It says a lot, and I don’t take that lightly. My goal is always to make sure you both feel comfortable, have fun, and create memories that stick long after the trip is over. Looking forward to the next adventure with you guys already. Tell Brandon I said he set the bar pretty high with that last catch! 🎣 - Captain Austin

Red Friday Beat Black Friday with Reel Deal
Half Day Adventure A.M on November 28, 20252 adults

Coldest day since last Winter, turned hot with catches. This charter is definitely the “reel” deal. Captain Austin puts you on them. He is raw and knowledgeable. Listen to his instructions and you will catch fish. This was our 5th charter this year, and the best by far. Love the marina location, Captain Austin knows the holes, has great equipment and damn good at telling you how to get them in the boat. Planning another trip with Tannic and is now my go-to for inshore fishing. Thanks so much Captain Austin for making a cold day a hot ending!

Redfish

Great day of fishing
Half Day Adventure A.M on April 11, 20261 adult1 child

My kids thoroughly enjoy fishing with capt. Austin. We caught quite a bit of rainbow trout and drum and came home and had dinner. Austin is top notch. Scheduled for Thursday but high winds were in the area and he conveniently adjusted his schedule to take us out on a warm calm day on the river. We highly recommend Austin and Tannic Water Adv.

Thank you so much, Bachir! That means a lot to me. I’m really glad we were able to make the adjustment with the weather and get you and the kids out on a nice calm day—that’s what it’s all about. Sounds like y’all put together a pretty solid dinner plan too with those trout and drum! It was a pleasure having your family onboard. Watching kids enjoy the experience and get excited about fishing never gets old for me. Y’all were awesome to fish with. Looking forward to having you back out there again soon! 🎣 - Captain Austin

Best I've ever done with a guide
Half Day Adventure A.M on September 16, 20262 adults

Went out a bit early since we got there early and stayed a little later than required since we were catching. Caught a bunch in my book and cleaned them for no extra charge.

Response from Captain

Thank you, Mitchell! We really appreciate the awesome review. When the fish are biting, it’s hard to head back to the dock! 🎣 I’m glad we could get you out a little early, keep the action going, and send you home with plenty of cleaned fish. Thanks for choosing Tannic Water Adventures—hope to have you back aboard again soon! 🙌🐟

Redfish and Trout Action on St. Johns
Redfish and Trout Action on St. Johns
September 1, 2026
Here’s a FishingBooker-ready September report: Writing ? SEPTEMBER IS HERE — AND THE FISH ARE HUNGRY! September is one of my favorite months to fish the St. Johns River and Downtown Jacksonville. The summer heat is finally starting to loosen its grip, and the fish are responding! Redfish have been keeping rods bent, with everything from slot-sized fish to big bruisers showing up. Speckled trout are getting more active, black drum are in the mix, and you never know what else is going to grab the bait next. Early mornings have been the ticket. We’re fishing light tackle around structure, creek mouths, drop-offs, and moving water while keeping an eye out for bait. Find the groceries and you’ll usually find something looking to eat them! The best part about September fishing in Jacksonville is the variety. One minute you're working on a nice keeper fish and the next you're hanging onto the rod wondering what freight train just picked up your bait. ?? Whether you're an experienced angler or have never held a fishing rod before, September is a great time to get on the water. We provide the gear, bait, ice, water, and plenty of questionable captain humor. Come see why fishing the St. Johns River with the Downtown Jacksonville skyline in the background is such a unique experience. September dates are open — come professionally bother some fish with Tannic Water Adventures! ?? — Capt. Austin Tannic Water Adventures
