4 hour – Private Salmon Charter on July 12, 2024 • 7 adults • 2 childrenI reserved 2 boats since we were a party of 7. We were 5 adults and 2 children under 6. We agreed to split up, girls (4) against the boys (3). Once we were in port (Ketchikan) I was told they had only 1 boat available and only 6 people could go. Terrible news and at the last minute. The charter representative said he would check to see if he could do something and try and get us a second boat. The problem was made worse because we had to take a shuttle into town and then find our captain. We were only in port a short time. When we finally got to town, then found the captain, the charter representative said he had managed to find us a second boat and captain. Now time was passing, we waited about an hour for the second boat to pull up. We split up 3 on the newer smaller boat and 4 on the bigger boat. Off we went. No complaints about the scenery, the boats or the conditions. We soon had lines in the water. The bigger boat took much longer since the boat was restricted due to its since and the "no wake" rule for larger boats (30'). Our boat was a 26'. Too much time was lost waiting for the second boat, traveling to the pickup zone and then dealing with the no wake rule. At the end of the day, we had to head back to port and get the shuttle. The larger boat was no permitted to use the dock where the Encore was docked. Had we had 2 - 26 footers, we could have both gone directly to the Encore dock. The biggest issue I had was the last-minute scrambling around trying to get the second boat. I made the reservation about a month before the reservation date. All this would have given us more time with lines in the water instead of wasting time at the dock. No complaints about my captain. Good guy and was doing what he thought would catch us bigger fish. He got us that.

The only thing is the name of the tour which I booked is a misnomer. It isn’t Salmon season so they weren’t fishing for Salmon. Also, the cost is pretty high and no food is offered at all. Other than that…it’s fabulous!

My kids went on this fishing trip and had a great time…catching four halibut and feeding an eagle in flight which was fantastic. The only thing is the name of the tour which I booked is a misnomer. It isn’t Salmon season so they weren’t fishing for Salmon. Also, the cost is pretty high and no food is offered at all. Other than that…it’s fabulous!

Captain William and his son, Reggie, provided an excellent experience. They provided just the right amount of support while facilitating independence on this excursion. Their expertise was evident, with us catching our limit for 4 people quickly, with plenty of time to spare. They were pleasant, friendly, and easy going. Would 100% recommend this crew to anyone in, or traveling through the area!!!
