Point Judith Giant Bluefin Tuna Charters
If you're looking to catch and release a giant Bluefin Tuna and have the ultimate thrill of a lifetime, consider chartering F/V Blitzen.
Captain David Appolonia has over 25 years of experience fishing the waters of Rhode Island and Block Island Sound, and is the only Rhode Island charter boat focused solely on giant Bluefin Tuna. You will be traveling onboard 'Blitzen', a Flowers 36' Downeast vessel, equipped with state-of-the-art safety gear, electronics and fishing equipment to target giant Bluefin Tuna that typically range between 300 and 1,000 pounds. Fishing for giant Tuna is for experienced anglers and suggest a charter group of no more than 4 guests.
During the months of June through November, we fish commercially for giant Bluefin Tuna when the season is open, which allows us to stay on top of where the fish are.
We are now offering catch and release charters when giants are most likely to be in RI waters starting June 1st.
'Catch and release charters' are designed for experienced anglers that are up to the challenge of trying find and catch the most powerful, toughest fish in the ocean.
On a typical day targeting giants, we leave the dock at 6:00 am and return by 5:00 pm. We begin the day with catching live Bluefish or Mackerel for bait and then run between 20 and 45 miles offshore to search for Whales, birds and schools of baitfish that attract giant Bluefin.
Targeting giant Bluefin Tuna is not only a challenge but an incredible adventure for experienced anglers.
This is great venue to entertain corporate clients and customers interested in big game fishing for an unforgettable experience.

Fished with Captain David on the F/V Blitzen multiple times for Giant Bluefin Tuna. Always had an excellent experience. The boat is meticulously maintained and fully outfitted with top of the line equipment for giant fishing. On my first trip with David we headed out near Block Island and were greeted with Giant Bluefin feeding on the surface. It didn't take long to get tight with one and after an hour long battle we had a 103" giant to the boat! On another trip we were fishing just miles from the RI shoreline and hooked and fought 3 giants before noon and finally landed a 107" jumbo bluefin! Captain David follows these fish throughout the entire season so there was always a game plan before we left the dock. If you're looking to get tight with the baddest fish in the ocean, this is the charter to book! I will definitely be booking again for the 2026 season!

Looking forward to fishing with you this summer Nick!

Had an epic day on board Blitzen with Captain Dave and mate Sven. We made our way to the windmills and found the whales. Started drifting with live mackerel to no avail. Moved further west, marked some fish and reset, 30 minutes later we hooked 2 giants at the same time; chaos ensured. We were fortunate to land a 90 incher. A day i will always remember. Thank you Dave and Sven.

Thankyou Eric, i look forward to having you come again. As soon as the giants show in June, we stay on top of where the giants are every week while we commercially fish for them. Call me and I will let you know when the fishing is good so you can book the best time to come.
