Backwater II Tarpon Fishing PR

San Juan Bay Marina
San Juan, Puerto Rico

Backwater Tarpon Fishing Charters specialize in going after Tarpon using light tackle and fly fishing gear. The Backwater Lagoons are a fantastic place to fish for the Silver King, and who better to help you than Captain Felix Cuadrado. You can count on him when going after the catch of your dreams.

His boat is a 20’ Seagull Nautico catamaran that runs on twin 70HP Suzuki engines. It can easily accommodate groups of up to 5 fishermen per trip. The boat is outfitted with a conventional range of navigational technology and fish finding equipment, including GPS, Fishfinder and radio.

The main battlegrounds during your day on the water will include the Laguna San Jose and the Laguna Torrecilla. These are known around the world for the massive number of resident Tarpon! Other than the Silver King, you can also expect to encounter the likes of Jack Crevalle and Snook.

Fishing licenses along with all the appropriate fishing gear for your trip is supplied by the Backwater team, complete with both artificial and live bait. Snacks and beverages (bottled water and soft drinks) are also provided for your enjoyment. Tarpon fishing is the experience of a lifetime, come and experience it for yourself!

Owning and operating a fishing charter in San Juan PR is a dream come true. I was corrupted at an early age watching my fishing heroes on ESPN outdoors wrangle saltwater species of every variety – and from the time I landed my first Tarpon at age 6 I knew there was nothing else I’d rather do with my life.

well, we were late , all good with Felix, We got in fish early ,also mositiqutos.need to change to harbor location. I lost my glasses, and we broke a pole but me and the wife caught fish, Bad part about it ,she caught the bigger one. Felix { one man operation} did a good job for the time we had with him. small boat but he knew where the fish are. told a lot about his island life.

Before we left, we had excellent communication with Captain Felix.  He was VERY friendly and the communication was excellent!  I was looking for a fishing trip that accommodated five people.  Most did not…..this trip did.  The other advantage was the Captain himself picked us up and dropped us off at the hotel!  This was a VERY nice perk, too.  The problem was the vehicle could not hold five people plus the driver so we had to “double up” in the vehicle.  This was unsafe and uncomfortable.  The other issue was due to the five people, there were only two casting poles and two trolling poles.  I “assumed” everyone would fish for the four hours…...but this was not so.  It would of been nice to know this up front and we would of chose two boats instead of one.  Our group was VERY excited to catch fish but after four hours and five people trying, no fish were caught!  Only one bite the entire four hours!  I know it’s called fishing and not catching but we were disappointed to all be skunked!!

Felix himself was a GREAT guy and very friendly and tried hard to put us on the fish, just no luck!  I guess the full moon four days earlier were still affecting the fish.
