Olivia J Charters offers fishing trips based out of Freeport, Texas. Captain Rodney Chapman will get you fishing the Gulf nearshore and offshore waters, and will work hard to ensure you have a fantastic and fun day out on the water.

Step aboard his 29’ Pro Sports ProKat center console with T-top, which comes powered by two brand new Suzuki DF 175 4 stroke outboard motors to get you to the fishing action in no time. This vessel boasts ample space for up to six anglers, and provides a stable and secure fishing platform from all areas of the deck. It comes equipped with GPS, fishfinder, VHF radio, live bait tank, ice box to keep your drinks ice cold and your catch fresh, as well as a toilet for your comfort.

Olivia J Charters offers shared half day trips, as well as private half or full day trips, and Capt. Rod will be happy to show you the most productive methods to reel in your target species. Techniques include fishing with light tackle, bottom fishing, trolling and drift fishing, and depending on conditions and the time of year you fish, you may find yourself chasing after Mahi Mahi, Kingfish, Cobia, Shark, Jack Crevalle, Red Snapper, Redfish, Black Drum, and more. Trips include rods, reels and tackle, live bait, lures, as well as cleaning and filleting of your catch at the end of the day. Fuel is included in the price. Not included is food, drink and fishing licenses. You can obtain liceses online or at other local retailers like Academy.

Really good beginner trip

The 5 hour afternoon state water trip was great for taking my son! He learned a lot and didn’t get sea sick. So I feel much better about booking a 8 or 10 hour trip. Best way for a youngster to start out offshore. If they do get sick it’s a short ride back to dock and you’re not out a ton of money! But don’t make no mistake thinking you’re going to go catch huge snapper, mahi-mahi, tuna, or grouper. This is a short range state water trip for kingfish, smaller state water snapper, redfish and shark. Go into it with the right expectations and you will have a great time. If you go into it thinking you going to catch Marlin you will be disappointed.

BEST CHARTER BOAT BY FAR!!!

I have gone on many fishing trips on all kinds of boats. Olivia J is definitely one of the best trips I have been on. We havedine 3 trips with them and all were awesome. We caught a lot of fish. The boat is very clean and well kept. I cannot say enough about how good the Captain and crew are, very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and just nice people. Made it very enjoyable for my 10 year old son and that was the most important thing to me. He caught several really large fish on all trips. Very good experience. Highly recommend.

Arrived eagerly to go out and catch some fish! As we proceed out the gulf, we all could tell not going to be a normal day. Very WINDY with 4-5ft swells. Captain Ethane stopped the boat. Said guys, we ain’t going to make it out much further. Gave us an option of going back or fishing there along the coast for sharks. We chose fishing. Ended up catching multiple sharks. Had a great time and captain was very enjoyable. He turned a trying situation into a lifetime trip! Thank you for that and we look forward to coming back again… hopefully without the waves!!

The Man, The Myth and The Legend!!! Captain Rodney!!!!

I have had several charters but Captain Rodney and Captain Ethan are hands down the greatest experience I have personally had. For starters, only me and my friend had booked the trip several weeks ago and expected others (folks we don’t know) to be on the trip as a shared charter. Unfortunately the others cancelled, but Captain Rodney didn’t even contact us to reschedule or cancel. Instead this man and his son took the time to take two old men from Oklahoma out on the water and try to put us on the fish. Not only did he put us on them, he had us reeling in fish almost from the start. I know I am personally blessed to have some awesome memories with one of my best friends and two new great guys (Captain Rodney and Captain Ethan). Thanks again for the great time boys and we will definitely see you again soon.

July fishing trip

5 Hour Trip – Private (AM) on July 28, 2025 • 3 adults • 3 children

We trolled first and caught 3 king mackerel. We had a party of six so everyone probably wasn’t going to catch a fish. Captain recommended going to a place to bottom fish where everyone would probably catch a fish. We caught several red snapper but had to release most of them because they were an inch short of minimum but each of us caught several fish. I was amazed that that many fish were an inch short. Great trip and crew.
