Locally owned and operated, Tropical Sportfisher is a premium guided sportfishing operation based in Cairns, Far North Queensland. Our experienced team of guides—including Rory, Aaron and Oscar—specialise in private lure and fly fishing charters throughout Cairns, Port Douglas and Mission Beach.
Our Barra Tracker charter is purpose-built for exploring Cairns' tropical rivers, estuaries and mangrove-lined creeks. Working with the conditions on the day, we target Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Giant Trevally, Queenfish, Tarpon, Fingermark and other exciting tropical sportfish using artificial lures and fly tackle.
We enjoy a visual style of fishing whenever conditions allow, with surface lures and topwater presentations producing some of the most memorable strikes of the day. Our boats are also equipped with the latest Humminbird Live Sonar technology, helping us locate fish and refine presentations when targeting Barramundi and other structure-oriented species.
The Barra Tracker's shallow draft allows us to quietly access areas larger boats simply can't reach, from narrow mangrove creeks to expansive estuary systems. Every trip is tailored to the tides, weather and your experience level, giving us the flexibility to fish where conditions are most favourable on the day.
You'll fish aboard our 16-foot Barra Tracker, equipped with premium Humminbird electronics, Minn Kota trolling motor, Live Sonar and quality safety equipment.
Every charter is completely private, allowing your guide to tailor the day to your fishing style and goals. We specialise exclusively in lure and fly fishing, offering a hands-on sportfishing experience for anglers of all abilities.

I've fished in North Queensland for over 30 years, I grew up fishing for Jungle Perch and Sooty Grunter along the banks of the Mulgrave river which eventuated into an obsession with Barramundi fishing. Then onto big Barramundi fishing which became my life for many years. These days other guides follow me around trying to find my barramundi spots. I started guiding to spend more time fishing and work in an industry I love. I've guided all across the top end of Australia for sport fishing lodges and multiple luxury mothership operations. I'm very fortunate to have grown up in the FNQ region with many different sportfishing options and being able to access the remote back country so easily.

You can cancel or modify your booking up to 7 days before the trip date, free of charge. If you cancel or modify your booking later, or fail to show up, you'll forfeit 100% of what you've paid.

Transfer to/from departure site may be available and included in price depending on your location and distance from the dock.

Book with 10% deposit, pay rest to captain
When the captain confirms your trip, FishingBooker charges your credit card a 10% deposit to guarantee your reservation.
The remaining balance is to be paid directly to the charter operator on or prior to your trip date in one of the following payment methods:
