Atlantic Drift – Fishing Charters & Ocean Experiences

Welcome aboard Benguela, Atlantic Drift’s purpose-built 10m Carry Cat, based in Hout Bay, Cape Town.

Trips are led by Captain Garreth, owner and operator, with 25 years of experience in competitive, commercial and charter fishing in Cape Town’s world-class tuna fishery. Garreth has represented South Africa and holds seven SADSAA records, all of which still stand today.

His experience extends across the USA, Bahamas, Caribbean, Panama, Costa Rica and Mexico, from kite fishing in South Florida and fly fishing the flats of Tulum to targeting Pacific Blue Marlin off Costa Rica. His strength lies in adapting to different fisheries, techniques and conditions to put guests in the best possible position to catch fish.

Our offshore trips focus on Yellowfin Tuna, with opportunities to catch Albacore, Bigeye, Bluefin and Skipjack Tuna, depending on the season and conditions. We use a range of techniques, including trolling, popping, jigging and baiting with sardines, adapting to the conditions on the day.

Closer to shore, our primary target is Cape Yellowtail, caught by trolling and sight fishing with topwater lures. Fly fishing can also be arranged on request. Snoek, Atlantic Bonito and a variety of reef and bottom species are also regularly caught.

Benguela is designed for Cape Town’s Atlantic conditions, offering a comfortable and capable platform with plenty of space for guests and meticulously prepared fishing equipment.

Drinks, snacks and lunch are provided, and the boat has an onboard toilet.

An experienced, STCW-trained First Mate assists throughout the day, from capturing memorable moments to helping you get strapped in for the fight of a lifetime with a large Yellowfin Tuna.

Atlantic Drift offers a premium Cape Town fishing experience, with high standards and even higher catch rates.
