La Rochelle is a 26’ game fishing boat, powered by twin Yamaha 25HP engines. Navigation-wise, La Rochelle is equipped with a GPS, sounder/plotter as welll as a VHS radio. As far as the fishing tackle is concerned, fishing gear that can be found on board is as follows:

• Shimano TLD 25
• Shimano Tiagra 80
• Shimano Tiagra 30
• Shimano Beast Master 50/80
• Reel Tica 30
• Reel Grauvell 30
• Reel Kona 30

Alain Marie-Jeanne, La Rochelle’s captain, has participated in numerous fishing tournaments, achieving notable results in three Championat de France big game fishing tournaments, and two Championat d’Europe big game fishing tournaments.

When it comes to fishing techniques utilized, the La Rochelle crew are very experienced in big game fishing, but are also happy to do bottom fishing, drift fishing using live bait, jigging and even surfcasting. The crew’s top priority is to put the customers on fish and make sure they have an outstanding experience on the Mauritian waters.

Located on the island’s northwest and acknowledged as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches back in 2011, Trou aux Biches is a tourist village. Generations have been inspired by the marine potential of the area, so it’s no wonder that fishing is the village’s main activity. Trou Aux Biches is famous for its white sands, the biodiverse blue lagoon, as well as colorful bungalows and hotels along its coast.

We caught 5 Tuna and one Bonnita. Great day out and our captain was superb with the kids.

The boat is not very fast or luxurieus. But has a skilled captain who knows his job. Without any help of GPS he could find the wright spots. Different fishing techniques for an optimal result during the day.
We fished in the wintertime (not the best time in the year) and managed to catch 10 small yellow fin tuna (10kg) and some bonito’s.

A very poor experience.

First, contrary to the express advice that I had been given when I had specifically raised with FishingBooker that I was left-handed and whether the boat had left handed reels, the captain expected me to reel in any hooked fish with my right hand.  This was incredibly limiting on the single occasion that we actually hooked a fish.  To have been given completely inaccurate information on the one specific issue that I raised when booking this vessel is appalling.

Second, there were no fish and, in my opinion, very little effort was made to find any.  We stayed at the first location for about one and a half hours and then the captain unilaterally made the decision to come back inshore (I was asleep at the time as there was little else to do).  He then took me to the second fishing location where we spent less than 5 minutes before he decided that there were no fish there.  He then started heading back and eventually told me (several hours before the end of the booked trip) that we should go back in as there were no fish.  I was not given any involvement in this decision.

Other than telling me that the fishing was much better in the Mauritian summer no attempt was made to apologise for this sorry experience.

If I ran my business in this manner I would rapidly go bankrupt.
