Popeye is a 32’ Cabin Cruiser powered by twin 85HP Perkins engines. The vessel is outfitted with a bedroom, kitchen, toilet (as well as a washing basin), spacious sundeck, barbeque grill and living space. As for fishing equipment, there are 10 fishing rods and reels on board, as well as a fighting chair.

Captain Ludovic owns and operates “Popeye” charters, from Balaclava/Pointe aux Piments, for the last 15 years. Ludovic is a veteran angler and an IGFA certified captain, with a catch portfolio to back that up: the boat’s record for Blue Marlin is almost 1000lbs.

The Mauritian waters are well-known for its deep sea hotspots and often-prolonged fishing seasons. Marlin season spans from November to April, although there’s often something to catch on virtually any given day, with a variety of other game fish species being present during the off-season.

The trips aboard Popeye mainly focus on the Mauritian west coast, where the waters seem particularly productive for larger pelagics. All the necessary fishing gear for your fishing party, complete with both live and artificial bait, is provided by Captain Ludovic.

Nice trip with helpful captain but no fish. Cannot valuate quality of guiding, because i am not experienced in deep see fishing. Other boats catched fish but very little. My opinion: even in indian ocean you need a portion of luck or more time and money to try again

We fished with Popeye for a half day of fishing.  The Captain spent too long on fishing in a very windy and rough sea.  He should have changed to trolling in calmer seas.  The boat was OK but the equipment was not good and out of date.  The crew was lazy and did very little.

No fish, no bites, no service.  Not recommended.

I understand that some people are happy, and others not, specially when back empty handed..  This is not a reason for not recommending us.
I just tried my best to bring you as close as possible to your targeted fish. And i can’t help it if they didn’t want to bite.
I know that not all my reels are brand new, but they are very well maintain, and i never use my lines more than six months after being changed.
Of course trolling to the wanted spot is the laziest way of catching fish, but as far as i can remember we got one bite 20mins before getting back to port.  But even before starting fight, fish was gone already..  Not my fault..
If a client is not happy about the service, why giving tips and rating with 2 stars the crew and fishing?

From my side, i found we had a good discussion and relationship onboard.

Looking forward to see you maybe another time with more luck.

Although we had a tough day on the water with only two fish caught, I would happily go out again with Capt. Ludovic and his crew member Ken. They covered a lot of water and were constantly changing lures in an effort to entice fish. We also tried jigging in certain areas but with little success. But that’s fishing, no guarantees, but still a good day.
What has been extra top class is the service and follow up by great communication and follow up. I will definitely use these guys again!!
