Fishing in Paihia

Discover the unparalleled fishing paradise of Paihia, New Zealand, nestled in the breathtaking Bay of Islands. This world-renowned destination offers exceptional saltwater fishing experiences, attracting anglers seeking both trophy catches and diverse marine life. With its sheltered waters and abundant ecosystems, Paihia delivers year-round opportunities across inshore reefs, deep-water trenches, and migratory game fish highways.

Paihia fishing charters specialize in accessing the Bay's legendary snapper grounds, where these prized fighters thrive near seafloors and shallow estuaries. For adrenaline-chasing anglers, the waters teem with acrobatic kingfish and powerful striped marlin, particularly during summer and autumn migrations. The region's unique underwater terrain—including the iconic Hole in the Rock and Ninepin Trench—harbors hapuka, terakihi, and seasonal tuna runs, while coastal spots consistently yield kahawai, trevally, and grouper.

Expert local skippers leverage decades of knowledge to navigate these productive fisheries, tailoring trips from light-tackle inshore adventures to dedicated big-game pursuits. Sheltered by Cape Brett Peninsula and intricate island networks, the Bay ensures comfortable fishing in most conditions. Whether targeting a personal best snapper or battling migratory billfish, Paihia’s dynamic marine environment promises unforgettable angling moments for all skill levels.
