Fishing in Fort Pierce

Firstly, there’s the diverse Indian River Lagoon. Secondly, there’s the maze of reefs and wrecks located right off the coastline. And thirdly, slightly further ashore, there’s the deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Yep, it’s easy to see why Fort Pierce fishing charters are in high demand! Step aboard, and come explore the world of angling opportunities on offer.

The Indian River Lagoon is an unmissable inshore option for novice and hardcore anglers alike. Spotted Seatrout, Snook, and Redfish can all be found here, as well as some snapshot-worthy scenery. Fort Pierce’s sandy beaches also provide plenty of nooks and crannies that are home to Tarpon, Trout, and Snook. Captains generally offer four-, six-, and eight-hour trips, so simply choose how much time you want to spend on the water!

If the main aim of your trip is to hook some tasty table fare, travel up to nine miles out onto the Atlantic. You’ll be greeted with a variety of reefs and wrecks, home to delicious Grouper and Snapper species. You can also opt to troll for King Mackerel and Cobia. A six- or eight-hour trip will give you plenty of time to explore these waters.

Want to head even further ashore? The rich waters of the Atlantic’s Gulf Stream await! Located between 20–40 miles from Fort Pierce, this is where you’ll find those famous “big name” Floridian fish – Mahi Mahi, Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, and Tuna. It’ll take up to an hour for you to start casting a line for your prey, so opt for six or more hours on the water. An eight-hour trip will allow plenty of fish-chasing time!

Rules & Regulations

Fort Pierce Fishing Seasons

January

Mahi and Sailfish are fantastic this time of the year. Head to the Atlantic's deep waters and get the bait going. Snook are plentiful under the cover of darkness, and Pompano can be found, too.

February

Sailfish are here and there, but Mahi can be caught anywhere in the Atlantic's deep waters. Trout are on the chew inshore and so are Snook. Mangrove Snapper swim at depths of 60 feet.

March

Big Jacks, big Snook, and big expectations of Mahi Mahi offshore sums up March pretty well! The weather’s getting hotter and so is the fishing. From Vero Beach to Fort Pierce, Redfish are also biting nicely.

April

April offers hard-fighting Snook and Trout around mangrove shorelines. Soft bait does the trick for Redfish. Later in the month, Mahi and Blackfin Tuna can be found lurking in the Atlantic.

May

Kingfish trolling produces great results around the nearshore reefs, and Cobia are close behind. Head to the south jetty to cast a line for Snook and there are some-good sized Mangrove Snapper on offer, too.

June

Plumbing the depths around the reefs remains strong, with Snapper, Amberjacks, and Groupers all biting. Tarpon begin to rise in numbers so check out the jetties and get ready to "bow to the Silver King"!

July

Trolling for Mahi Mahi yields good results in the deeper waters of the Atlantic. Inshore, Snook can be spotted around the bridges. Reds and Trout swarm inshore waters, too.

August

It's Swordfish time! Get your best angling buddies and head out for some proper deep sea fishing to battle this species. Mahi and Wahoo fishing is also brilliant during August, so prepare for battle.

September

Hard-fighting Sailfish and Mahi Mahi can be caught offshore. You can also snatch up some Snapper and Grouper around the reefs, and the Kingfish bite is strong here, too.

October

Inshore, Reds are biting well, while the offshore waters of the Atlantic are home to hard-fighting Mahi Mahi and Sailfish. As the weather drops, Snook fishing becomes excellent.

November

Redfish fishing is seriously hot in November, so come see if you can hook yourself a Bull! Snook fishing in the inlets adds to the inshore action. Offshore, Sailfish are traveling south, looking to feed.

December

Kingfish are moving around the reefs, and the Snook bite is still solid inshore. Head offshore, and you can cast a line for Mahi Mahi and Sailfish.
