January

Sheepshead is great now, with Speckled Trout and Redfish still biting well. Other species have quieted down this month as temperatures reach highs of 64°F.

February

In February and March you can participate in the Matagorda County Fair and Livestock Competition. Everything from barrel racing to bull riding to a pageant competition awaits.

March

Join in the Matagorda Seafood Festival and test yourself in the oyster eating competition! Great month for Redfish and Trout.

April

Black Drum and Spanish Mackerel are biting best now. Redfish and Flounder are still going strong.

May

Tarpon starts to heat up while Spanish Mackerel continues to be excellent. Sheepshead start to bite less now.

June

It’s time for the Texas Trio Classic fishing tournament. Catch the biggest Redfish, Flounder, and Trout to win big!

July

Women can fish in the Matagorda Mermaid Competition, and everyone can fish in the Texas Oilman’s Charity Invitational tournament. Something for everyone this month!

August

Tarpon, Redfish, Shark, and Speckled Trout are excellent now. This is the warmest month, reaching 90°F on average.

September

Head out for Redfish and Tarpon and you won’t be disappointed! Speckled Trout and Shark are still biting great.

October

Flounder really heats up now. Wait up to 10 seconds after they strike before setting the hook – these are tentative fish!

November

Watch the Lighted Christmas Boat Parade and Gumbo Cook-off at Matagorda Harbor. Taste the best gumbo and end the night with a fireworks display.
