Difficult fishing conditions bit Donavan found us fish where most boats had headed back to the harbour

Donavan is an experienced and knowledgeable guide with an easy going and super friendly nature. He made this a special experience from the moment we met him, and enriched our experience by sharing his excellent knowledge of the history of Simonstown. He was kind and understanding even when my nephew got sea sick and had to return to the yacht club. The boat was very well equipped and we caught about 30 fish! Donovan was excellent with my son and even let him “drive” the boat. We enjoyed our freshly caught yellow tail for dinner (delicious!) and will certainly book with Donovan every time we visit Cape Town!

We had a fantastic day with Don & Barry who were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and great teachers. As first timers, we wanted to experience sea fishing, and we did so with great teaching and fun. Both gents also had fantastic knowledge of the Cape, it’s history, geography and fishing intelligence which was all really interesting and added to the experience.

Don is also a conservationist, not just catching fish but also contributing to research and tagging & releasing protected fish, which was great to see, he really cares!

When we are next back in Cape Town, we will definitely come back and go out for another trip on Don’s boat!

We booked with Ocean Life Fishing Charters originally for a deep sea trip during our 5 day stay in CT. It was the low season so Captain Donavan quickly informed me an inshore trip would be better and changed my booking (for a lower price) - he was very communicative and also helped us reschedule around a day of bad weather.

Despite being the low season, he and his assistant Rudolph got us out in great weather and got us a lot of fish despite being the low season. They both gave us a ton of local info from history of buildings and land structures to even restaurant and other local attraction recommendations. They were sure to show us plenty of scenery as my wife joined and that was important to her. Donavan is also excellent at getting you into the fish and keeping you there for the right amount of time.

We caught a lot of fish, saw great sights, and got a lot of info - this ended up being our best excursion of our 2 week trip. We had an amazing time with Donavan and Rudolph and we highly recommend booking with Ocean Life. We plan to book with Donavan again whenever we return to CT.
