Zone: The Fish Highway ⸻ Report: The Fish Highway was firing today off the lower section of The Hump, and two seasoned guests — Oleg and Igor from Toronto — made it count in true TD Coastal fashion. Both Chinook strikes came on a custom “No Bananas” spoon running deep at 195 ft, dialed in tight just above the shelf. These were classic Campbell River fish — aggressive, thick-bodied, and built for battle. Igor was up first, locking into a deep-running slab that gave him a full 20-minute slugfest before surfacing. After an epic fight, he chose to release the Chinook with full respect — a true West Coast moment. Oleg followed with a war of his own. Four hard runs and deep dives later, he brought his fish to the boat clean, calm, and earned. Both strikes hit within the same hour — clear sign that the Chinook are staging deep and tight on the bait lanes. The key takeaway today? ? Fish deep. Troll slow. Stay on the seam. Fishing Report – July 1st Location: The Hump, Campbell River Depth: 255 ft Lure: Go Bananas Spoon Target Depth: 150 ft This morning’s trip delivered steady action and smiling faces! We were fishing the Hump in 255 feet of water, working gear at 150 feet, where a swarm of Coho lit up the sonar. Most of the activity came from wild and hatchery Coho, with a few powerful Chinooks crashing the party and giving us a workout before being released. The Go Bananas spoon was the clear winner today — flashing, dancing, and getting crushed on the troll. ✅ We kept a few fresh hatchery Coho for the BBQ and released all wilds with care. ? What a day! My dad and I went out on a 4hr expedition and had the most beautiful day. Dan and Tom were so great, both worked their magic and we had fish on within seconds of dropping the lines! Tom had the most incredible stories and was keen to teach us. With his 40yrs experience it was quite something! Dan guided us to the best spots and was so sweet to take pics and videos for us. Fantastic fishing trip with calm weather and even though the bait fish were hard to find we caught a 25lb, 15lb Chinook, 2 Hatchery Coho, and about half a dozen others we let go. The crew really know the area well and know how to change strategies to catch the fish.
