Background
TD Coastal Adventures was built on family, tradition, and community. My story started at five years old on the salt waters of Vancouver Island with my dad, brother, and uncle. I was barely tall enough to see over the wheel, but they let me drive the boat — and that’s when the sea got into my blood. Those early mornings, chasing salmon through wind and tide, gave me more than memories. They gave me purpose. Today, my boat carries the name of my late mom, The Barb, and my brother Tom — with 50 years of guiding experience — continues to share the wisdom that shaped the way I fish. Together, we bring a legacy on the water that’s second to none. For us, fishing isn’t just business — it’s family, tradition, and a way of life. We also believe in giving back to the coast that has given us so much. TD Coastal Adventures supports local causes, from hospice fundraisers to youth programs and community events. To us, being part of Vancouver Island means more than running charters — it means strengthening the people and the place we call home. Step aboard and you’ll fish the way these waters are famous for: single-action reels screaming, Tomic plugs flashing, anchovy and spoons custom-rigged from decades of know-how, and downriggers paired with hand-stuffed hootchies. It’s raw, it’s authentic, and it’s west coast fishing at its finest. This is more than fishing — it’s my life’s story, my family’s tradition.Step aboard, and let’s write your story on the tides of Campbell River.
Techniques
Campbell River is famous around the world for one thing — salmon fishing tradition. This is the Salmon Capital, where generations have run the tides chasing Chinook, Coho, Pinks, Chum, and the wild pulse of the Pacific. Add in the hard-hitting Lingcod that prowl our reefs, and you’ll see why anglers from everywhere come here to test their skill and fill their stories with saltwater legends. I carry that tradition forward every time I step on the water. Out here, fishing isn’t just a pastime — it’s a way of life, a test of grit, and the reason this town put its name on the map. On my boat, you’ll fish the way Campbell River is known for: single-action reels screaming, Tomic plugs flashing in the depths, and line-burning runs that make your heart pound. It’s raw, it’s authentic, and it’s what we’re famous for. I also rig downriggers with carefully stuffed hootchies, anchovy, and spoons — custom-presented on our lines from decades of catching salmon. Every lure and setup is chosen with one thing in mind: putting you on fish and giving you the thrill of a lifetime. With my lifetime on these waters, and together with my brother’s 50 years of guiding experience, we bring a legacy you can’t learn in a book. Step aboard and you’re not just booking a trip — you’re joining a story, a tradition, and an adventure that only Campbell River can deliver. This is west coast fishing at its finest — wild, legendary, and unforgettable. Captain Dan style. โš“??

September Salmon Fishing - Big Resident
September Salmon Fishing - Big Resident
Aug 23, 2025 Campbell River
? โ€œSome come here for fishโ€ฆ others come here to face the ocean itself.โ€ ? This is the Salmon Capital of the World โ€” and September is when the giants return. ? The Tyee. More than a fish, itโ€™s a crown. Only Chinook over 30 lbs earn the name. When a Tyee hits, the ocean doesnโ€™t ask โ€” it takes. The reel screams like a war horn, the rod bows, and suddenly youโ€™re in a fight that can break your body and set your soul on fire. Iโ€™ve seen grown menโ€™s hands bleed from the reel, arms shaking, faces pale โ€” and every one of them said theyโ€™d do it again tomorrow. Because to fight a Tyee is to wrestle the spirit of the Pacific. Win, and youโ€™ll never forget it. Lose, and youโ€™ll dream about it for the rest of your life. โšก And they donโ€™t come alone. Northern Coho up to 20 lbs โ€” silver lightning ripping through the tide lines, cartwheeling in spray and fury. Pure chaos on the deck. Every September, people step off The Barb different. Some laugh wild. Some fall silent. Some stare long at the horizon, knowing they just battled something bigger than themselves. โš“ The window is open. The giants are home. And when September endsโ€ฆ so does the chance to meet them. ? This is your call. Donโ€™t miss it. ? Book your fight today: **hidden content** Rod bends. Soul mends. Legends are forged here. #CampbellRiver #TyeeTime #EpicSeptember #SalmonCapital #FishingReport #TDCoastalAdventures

โ€œThe Rod, The Song, The Chinookโ€ ? TD Coastal Adventures โ€“ Campbell River, BC ?๏ธ July 20 Sunset Charter ? โ€œDust in the Windโ€ playing as the reel screamedโ€ฆ โธป Some trips leave you with fish. This one left us all with goosebumps. The sea was glass. Sunset glowing behind the islands. The kind of evening where the water holds its breath. Mark and his family were on board The Barb, chasing memory, chasing meaning. He said to me, quietly: โ€œAll I want is to fight one good Chinook before the light fades.โ€ Not even five minutes laterโ€ฆ Bang. Rod down. Reel ripping. The No Bananas Spoon weโ€™d set at 120 ft in 140 ft of water went off like a cannon. Mark got his fight. And the Chinook didnโ€™t give it up easy. It dove, it twisted, it tail-walked and slammed the rod like a steel freight train from the deep. He fought it like a warriorโ€”and he won. But thatโ€™s not what made this night legendary. A second rod popped. Another big fish. Markโ€™s teenage son looked unsure. It was quiet. You could hear the wind stop. I leaned over and said: โ€œStep up, son. This is your moment.โ€ He did. And with the whole family watching, he fought that Chinook like he was born to guide. 14 lbs. 75 cm. Keeper. A memory burned into the soul of that boy forever. โธป ? Hereโ€™s what you need to know: โ€ข Location: Lighthouse Ledge โ€ข Depth: Fishing 120 ft in 140 ft of water โ€ข Lure: Custom No Bananas Spoon โ€ข Result: Two epic Chinooks. One legendary family moment. One fisherman became a father. One son became a man. โธป โš ๏ธ The big Chinooks are here NOW. Youโ€™re either on the boatโ€ฆ Or youโ€™re reading someone elseโ€™s fishing story. ? July & August are almost fully booked. ? Private charters only โ€“ 4, 5, and 6-hour trips available. ? All gear, tackle, and fish cleaning included. ? Depart from Slip 27, D-Dock โ€“ 1374 Island Hwy, Campbell River ? Book now through Fishbooker or text Captain Dan directly. ? Catch the moment. Live the legend. โ€” Captain Dan TD Coastal Adventures โ€œRod bends. Soul mends.โ€

? TD Coastal Adventures โ€“ Fishing Report ? The Hump โ€“ Lower Section, Campbell River BC ?๏ธ July 15, 2025 ? Target Species: Chinook Salmon ? Lure: Custom No Bananas Spoon ? Depth: 195 ft ? Zone: The Fish Highway โธป Report: The Fish Highway was firing today off the lower section of The Hump, and two seasoned guests โ€” Oleg and Igor from Toronto โ€” made it count in true TD Coastal fashion. Both Chinook strikes came on a custom โ€œNo Bananasโ€ spoon running deep at 195 ft, dialed in tight just above the shelf. These were classic Campbell River fish โ€” aggressive, thick-bodied, and built for battle. Igor was up first, locking into a deep-running slab that gave him a full 20-minute slugfest before surfacing. After an epic fight, he chose to release the Chinook with full respect โ€” a true West Coast moment. Oleg followed with a war of his own. Four hard runs and deep dives later, he brought his fish to the boat clean, calm, and earned. Both strikes hit within the same hour โ€” clear sign that the Chinook are staging deep and tight on the bait lanes. The key takeaway today? ? Fish deep. Troll slow. Stay on the seam. And if youโ€™ve got a No Bananas spoon โ€” use it. If not, book with Captain Dan and Iโ€™ll bring one. โธป Current Notes: โ€ข Bait balls showing tight to bottom in 180โ€“210 ft โ€ข Best bite time: 7:30โ€“9:15 AM โ€ข Tide swing: Moderate flood tide โ€ข Water clarity: Good โ€ข Wildlife seen: Eagles, porpoises, and one curious seal โธป Captainโ€™s Note: โ€œThis wasnโ€™t just a good day โ€” it was a day the sea remembers. Oleg and Igor brought patience, power, and respect. Thatโ€™s what Chinook fishing on the coast is all about.โ€ โ€” ? Now Booking: Chinook runs continue strong through late July. ? Sunset Big Fish, Morning Missions, and Salmon & Seals charters available. ? **hidden content** |
