It was a nice fishing day with Marwan for myself, son in law and grandson. First catch was two nice tuna simultaniously:) A bit of a hassle for us but with a good coatching by Marwan we got the fish up. The kalamari was winshed up from 500m deep! And it tasted good?. Sushi bite on board?.
I used to fly fishermen out to the lakes and rivers in finnish lappland wilderness. This was a nice experience to be a quest in a red sea environment. Towards the end of our trip we got exiting experience of a minor engine malfunction but Marwan’s fisherman friends helped us out and we got back to harbour. My advice yo my dear fishing colleague is to use a check list like we pilots use. Human factor has thought us that we can not trust human mind…
Also we got our catch taken to a nearby “souk” freezer by Marwan, where we rescued them nicely packed to take them with us. Thank you Marwan? In finland we use to say:“Kireitä siimoja” (tight fishing lines)?

The squid catch was amazing.  Unfortunately, 95% of the day was trying to catch tiny Mackerel.

I had high hopes for this trip. Great reviews and great photos but i left disappointed and quite frankly felt scammed. I traveled half way across the world to do some fishing but i sat and watched as the captain was the only one who was really fishing. Once we anchored he passed out some jigging rods and just told us to drop the lures and reel back up and keep repeating. Meanwhile he set up his deepsea equipment and began to fish. We as a group of 4 only caught 1 tiny mackerel that was accidentally side hooked. Then for the remainder of the trip we did nothing but drop and reel. You would think the Captain would have maybe given us some tips and tricks from his many years of experience but no…nothing. You would think he would try different lures or different spots but no…nothing. He was more concerned about his catch.
The captain had 2 real catches in 5hrs. A homboldt squid and a swordfish. Then the captain made sure everyone in the group took pictures/videos of HIM reeling and pulling in the catch for his social media pages. Afterwards we were allowed to take pictures with the catch to give off the illusion that we caught anything. The whole 5 hours felt cheap and boring. Now some in my group had fun because they have never fished or even been on a boat in their entire lives and for them this was good experience. I can see for some they will enjoy this type of trip but if you fish and enjoy the “thrill of the catch” then AVOID captain marwan trips. If you want to fund his fishing trip and you just be a passenger then captain marwan is for you. Also bring your own snacks, the only snacks we was offered was water.
