Capt Roberto delivers.  We had an excellent trip trolling for wahoo and spent the majority of the day sword fishing. 

As a fisherman myself, Capt Roberto is definitely one of the best.  He is more than willing to teach his method and techniques for sword fishing and he has a plethora of other stories about tuna, permit, marlin, etc. 

Well worth the trip to Cozumel/Playa del Carmen to go fishing with him.

Had an awesome day fishing with 3 friends who love to fish. Capt Roberto and first mate we’re great guides and worked every angle for us to catch fish, and we did !
This was one of the best trips I’ve ever been on. The bite started a bit slow but Captain Roberto kept working different techniques and spots then it was game on!
We caught 7 different species of fish.
Our resort prepared the fish and that was delicious.

Great trip overall.  Didn’t find the big amberjacks we wanted but I caught 2 Almaco jacks and the biggest barracuda I’ve ever seen.  Roberto was great.  Super knowledgeable, speaks perfect English and worked very hard to put me on the meat.  Keep in mind that speed jigging, a technique he introduced to the area, is hard work and not for the casual, beer drinking, leisurely boat ride type fisherman.  You will sweat and be sore the next day for sure.  A whole lot of fun for those that know what they are getting into.  I loved it and would go again with Roberto without a doubt next time I’m down there.

Fishing with Roberto was awesome! He is a very knowledgeable and experienced angler. Went for a Wahoo bite early then jigged at 900’ deep. We caught a barracuda and a beautiful Queen Snapper. Roberto did his best to find fish but the fish had other plans. I would highly recommend Roberto and Tony if you’re in the area. He seemed to really enjoy the hunt and wants you to have an amazing experience.

TL;DR - Highly recommended! A top notch Captain and crew. Make sure you have a hat, and gator. A great boat for experienced and novice fisherman alike.

Based on Roberto’s reputation and a personal recommendation from a local fishing buddy of mine I booked a full day sword trip with Roberto for my brother and myself who were staying in Playa with our families over Christmas. We’re both highly experienced inshore fisherman with some offshore experience.

In advance of our trip Roberto was super communicative, open to doing other fishing that day as circumstances allowed and generally very helpful and accommodating. His English is excellent and he is very responsive via whatsapp.

When the day arrived we made it down to Puerto Aventuras, and Roberto and his mate Leo were ready for us. We jumped on board and set out heading about 12 miles offshore, doing some high speed trolling for Wahoo on the way. When we hit the sword grounds the Captain and Leo quickly dropped and set our baits ~1600 feet down - thank goodness they have an electric reel!

After a bit we had a fish on which we fought for well over an hour - on the electric reel thankfully! While it sadly wasn’t a sword it was a good sized thresher shark in the 150-200# class. Apparently a thresher is a very rare catch down there - this was only Roberto’s third and the his biggest ever.

We reset a few more times but a swordfish continued to elude us. We did some deep jigging for Amberjack on the way in and Robert put us on fish in minutes. Whew - that’s hard work but it’s effective - think jigging for bluefish but in 300’+ and with like 18oz of lead!

All in all a great day with a very professional Captain and crew. Lots of laughs and we learned a ton. Thanks Roberto and Leo - tight lines and see you later this year!
