I am a Southern California native and have been an avid angler since the age of 3. Dana Point is rated one of the best fishing spots in Southern California, with only about a 5-minute voyage to get out of the harbor and into the fishing spots. When I had boats in Huntington and Newport, it took me almost an hour to get out of the harbor. I own a fast boat in a small harbor which means more fishing time for you. I purchased a couple of boats and bought a house across the street to follow my dream job – fishing!

Had a full day trip and left the harbor water was 58 degrees. Out front inshore 63 degrees for 1 Calico Bass so off to the 14 mile bank for 1 small Mako Shark. Slow day. Hopefully tomorrow the cold water temps bounce back and start warming for awesome action like yesterday! Its been really good for over a month. The wind only blew at 25 Knotts for about 6 hours last night and it picked up this afternoon. Tomorrow's fishing and water temps are to be determined. Catalina fishing is the same as the local right now.

Mako Sharks are HOT. Best season we have ever had RockenReel Sportfishing specializes in dual fishing- fish/shark combo trips. We have secret sauces and go above and beyond when it comes to budget- we don't have one- our goal is to do everything in our power to land you that catch of a lifetime. We triple down and get busy. Bait, attract tactics, tackle and are expertise and secret weapons have earned us the reputation of being the #1 S CAL Sharking Charter Fleet. We live, eat and breathe fishing! This season started early with the Bass and Barracuda bite. Halibut is starting to turn on now. The pelagic fish should be local soon- water temps are 69-71 degrees, great fishing temps. The Mako Sharks are here with warm blue clean water and we are averaging a few Mako Sharks every day fir the past 5 days. Bass and Barracuda are wide-open several hours if every day. It's still fishing so sometimes you don't get the fish or sharks but this time of year - summer and early fall- you have a great chance.

Just got the morning report. Kept one Mako Shark and released the rest! Bass and Barracuda all morning. We ask that you only keep what you are going to eat. One keeper Mako per trip that is going to be harvested and eaten fresh or fresh frozen please. The limit is 2 Mako Sharks per person. CATCHING A Mako Shark is something everyone on board will never forget and is sure to be the highlight of fishing stories to be carried in your back pocket for life. We want everyone to have a go at one of these awesome Sharks so please conserve.. we also prefer to release females. FISH on! - Captain Steve and Christine

Two Makos on a 4 hr charter today.One female Mako Shark released safely- we have the right equipment- hook pulleys, steel and wire cutters and we use hooks and steel leaders that dissolve within a couple days in the salt water to protect species. BASS and Barracuda everywhere and biting! Sculpin, Halibut and other species also in the mix. Great fishing right now.

Fun trip. We slayed the Calico Bass & Pacific Barracuda today on both charters- afternoon charter was wide open. Morning charter was one sees two sees but consistent.We also caught and released Blue Shark. Sculpin aka " Scorpion Fish" , Sand Dab, Pacific Makeral and Sand Bass were also in today's catches.
