Background
My grandfather moved to Florida from Washington D.C. in the 1960s and fished the Keys and the Everglades for decades. When I was younger he would take me out of school to go fishing with him. I cherished every moment I got to spend with him. In 2014 he passed away and I was determined to keep the fishing legacy in the family. I worked hard to get my captain's license and spent as much time on the water as I could. Every time I travel to the Everglades I remember my grandfather and the memories we shared together. To me, fishing is more than just recreation or sport, it's a chance to reconnect with my dad and grandpa, revisiting memories of wonderful times spent together outdoors. My goal for everyone I fish with is that they would come away from the experience with more than just a big fish or nice story and cool pictures. My desire is that they make life-lasting memories with their families in one of the greatest places on earth; the Everglades.
Techniques
Some of the fishing techniques I use on a regular basis are, live baiting, jigging, plugging, trolling, poling, drifting, and anchoring. My trips can be spinning or fly depending on customer preference.

Fishing Reports

May fishing is soooo good!
May fishing is soooo good!
May 20, 2022 Homestead
As we progress into the month of May the regular tourist season seems to slow down but the fishing season starts to heat up big time. The Tarpon are here in the keys in droves. I heard that two nights ago there was a worm hatch and the tarpon were going nuts. It's very difficult to hook migrating tarpon even though you might see hundreds of them. Just getting one to eat is a great day. The smaller ones are more cooperative and theres plenty of opportunities around Everglades National Park for the juveniles. The snook action is hot as can be especially around the full moons They will be in full spawning mode in June so if you want to catch a big one try booking the full moon to about 4 days after. The mullet have officially made their spring entrance and they are pretty much everywhere. This means that the fly popper bite and the topwater spook bite is pretty hot since the fish are keying in on mullet sized flies and baits. Anything that looks like a dying mullet is getting smashed. The redfish have been difficult to find they havent been tailing as much as they do in the fall but they are around hiding among the mullet in the mullet muds. We caught a few on topwaters the other day but not without a lot of searching. The bonefish fishing has been suprisingly good for this time of year. We've been catching some close to double digits and also sightfishing a few. We went 5 for 7 the other afternoon and that is a spectacular day of bonefishing in my opinion. All that to say the weather is hot right now and so is the fishing so bring your cold water and drinks and Give me a call! lets put a trip together!

Herman Lucerne Tarpon Cup & Backcountry
Herman Lucerne Tarpon Cup & Backcountry
May 4, 2022 Homestead
Awesome three weeks fishing and exploring out in Florida Bay, and The Keys. Got to fish the Herman Lucerne Tarpon Cup out of Islamorada with a good friend of mine and had a lot of fun. Day 1 we found two laid up Tarpon asleep next to some shallows. My angler Chris casted once and put the fly right in front of her face. The fish woke up and moved off not biting the fly. about 2 minutes later the two fish circled back and Chris made another great presentation and the fish garbaged it! As Chris was clearing the line a giant knot ripped through all the guides and after a few jumps Chris handlined his fish for about 2 minutes while I worked on the knot. It was so bad the knot stripped the coating off the flyline core. We eventually got a face grab on the fish and all was right with the world. As far as the other species in the park; The snook are staging now and starting to spawn so the big ones are definitely around in certain places. catching a snook over 30" is definitely a trophy sized fish. one over 35" and your pushing the limits to how big they can get in the Everglades. I've seen 40 inches and larger but have not been able to catch them. The redfish have been difficult to find but hopefully with more rain we'll start seeing some bigger schools and tailers out in the really skinny water. The trout fishing has been fairly good and we've been catching a few nice ones every day. The big tarpon seem to be not as abundant as last year. The only ones I've caught were in the tournament itself. On a recent trip we caught and landed the biggest bull shark ever caught off of my boat. It was about 7 1/2ft long and weighed probably 250lbs. The snapper bite recently has been really good we found some good size ones in a few areas and that's been a lot of fun. Besides fishing there's a lot of other cool wildlife present in the park. I saw some water moccasins crossing the road on the way out one day. The crocodiles are also around on the low tides. The dolphins have been working the mullet out in the bay. The Everglades is a special place. This time of year is really good fishing. If you'd like to book a trip let me know.

Canoe Trails On Fire!
Canoe Trails On Fire!
Mar 30, 2022 Homestead
As March fades into April the waters are getting warmer. Right now we are at the end the dry season. By May we should be getting daily isolated thunderstorms and rain on the daily. All the more reason to make sure you have good rain gear. A good Gore-Tex Jacket and light rainproof pants make an otherwise uncomfortable day into a good time. April is a great time to target peacock bass, mayan cichlids, oscars, and largemouth trapped in ponds and canals as the lower water level in the glades congregates them into deeper areas. I run trips into the interior of the glades this time of year but those are all canoe based trips only. Down in Flamingo this time of year I often catch sea trout but also Snook and tarpon. The fishing out of the canoe is also usually red hot. Redfish are also a possibility. Over this past week I had the pleasure of running two NMZ trips that went fantastic. We left the dock in the dark to make it to the launch point right at sunrise. The bugs weren't bad because the wind was blowing 20kts. I was able to put my clients on lots of snook and they had a blast. The next day right after a really bad front pushed through I went out with a different group and they managed to land a 8-10 year old snook along with many other smaller ones. It was also a pleasure to guide one of them to their first ever tarpon on fly. Check out the pictures and videos to prove it. I highly recommend booking a NMZ trip this time of year it is very good fishing.
