We love being on the water in this beautiful paradise and this did not disappoint. While we didn’t catch fish, we had a great time. Jim’s guest captain and crew were both friendly and professional.

Top notch effort from the captain and mate, but nothing to be done when the fish all have lockjaw

We booked a 6hr trip with Captain Jim. Our grandson Brandon loves fishing. This is his graduation gift. All three of us caught some small tuna. Brandon wanted to try to catch a big fish after that. He had 2 bites but they got away. He was a bit disappointed but he was still very happy with the experience.
Captain Jim offered to take him out again the next day. He was going to take the day off but he wanted to help Brandon catch a big fish. Since Brandon loves fishing so much, we took up the captain’s offer. We are so glad we did cause Brandon caught 2 big marlins. Captain Jim also showed Brandon various aspects of fishing that only true fishermen will know. Needless to say, Brandon was so very happy with his experience and he told everyone that was the best day of his life.

Captain Jim is kind, enthusiastic and extremely devoted to his profession. He works very hard to make sure his customers have a good experience. We are so blessed that we found him and signed up with him for our fishing trip.

This was my first time fishing the big island and as a fly angler Jim and James of the Kona dice did an awesome job accommodating the weird shit I wanted to try. It’s absolutely clear they know the big fish game and while we didn’t get a Marlin on the line I had at least two solid shots on the fly rod at Marlin. Jim tossed the tackle box at them, teasers, plugs, live bait you name it.  captain knows how to pull these critters up from the deep. Which with 700+ft of water is just mind boggling to think about. I left feeling like if I had another day with this crew it would absolutely happen and then id totally get my ass rocked by one of these big Kona marlin. Jim and james also got us some solid fun on yellowtail and skipjacks including off the fly rod (small hooks and gummy baits the ticket) my folks and I definitely enjoyed the trip and it’s worth booking the full 10 hrs as you never know what can happen.

When booking a trip it’s hard to find out who to book with as there are so many options. To make it easy, book with Jim. There were good vibes from the moment we hit the water, Jim and Chris wasted no time getting a pile of lines in the water! About an hour in we hooked into a beautiful wahoo. After a little while of not catching anything Jim decided to come make a custom lure for the tides and the water we were in. Not long after, they spotted a fish checking out the lure and ran up to the line and started playing with it to bait the fish in. The fish took the bait and it was game on! This was a short nose marlin that my girlfriend was able to land with the coaching of Chris and Jim. When we were done Jim recommended a local eatery to stop at that cooked up some of our fish we caught! It was awesome to think not even two hours ago we were dealing in our dinner. Over all the best charter experience I have ever had!
