Background
Captain Taco Perez has been mastering the waters of South Florida since the mid 70’s. He fished for Jacks, Tarpon, and whatever else patrolled the canals and Intracoastal waterways. Taco’s first boat was a 25’ Open Fisherman, aboard which he explored the Ft. Lauderdale coast. Taco gained as much information as possible from local anglers, perfected his cast, and tried various techniques and fishing methods. Before he knew, people began asking him about fishing! Taco’s repertoire is not limited to the waters of South Florida. He has fished all over Mexico, Venezuela, St. Thomas, and Turk, as well as the Bahamas. He has successfully taken part in various fishing competitions, including the Bahamas Blue Marlin tournament. Now, Captain Taco has his own charter business and he is loving every minute of it.
Techniques
We do quite a bit of trolling and in the winter months we also like to kite fish along with some deep drops on some of the ship wrecks.

Chartering a fishing boat off the coast of South Florida the does and donโ€™ts As a seasoned Captain fishing over 35 years off the coast of Fort Lauderdale you can say Iโ€™ve learned quite a bit about anglers and fishing down here. I want to talk a bit about the dues and don'ts when chartering a boat and coming back to the dock feeling like you got your moneys worth and with a crew that gave it their best trying to catch you not only fish but the kind of fish you wanted!! When you arrive at our boat we always like to take a few minuets to see what your looking for and what kind of experience your looking to have. First we like to go over the boat some safety points about the boat the head (bathroom) coming up on the fly bridge and some of the most comfortable places to sit or stand while waiting for the bit. Now the important part the FISH!! When I ask our angles in these summer months what they would like to catch the most common thing I here is Mahi Mahi!!! I get it summer time in South Florida can produce lots of Mahi but not always. When we go fishing for Mahi we usually go pretty far off shore and look for weed lines or good color changes in the water or any kind of debris we can find floating and if we do find any of these thing it can be a BANNER day BUT if we donโ€™t find that needle in the haystack it can make for a disappointing day. Also you really are not utilizing our skills and knowledge till and if we do find them. So here is what I recommend if your heart set strongly on Mahi Mahi I would recommend taking at least a 6 hour trip so if we donโ€™t find the Mahi we can save some time to try some other fishing techniques to putting some food on the table. Remember while Mahi are fun to catch and good to eat there and more fish in the sea than just Mahi. . These are some of the fish we have been catching this summer. Yep you got it great fun to catch and yes great eating as well. And if you donโ€™t think these fish put up one hell of a fight on light spinning rods well youโ€™ve got a big surprise coming. Iโ€™m not saying that these big beautiful fish are always going to be biting but your Captain who you charter should have his finger on the pulse fishing the waters everyday and can lead you in the right direction to a successful day on the water. So remember not just Mahi but eating fish gives your Captain a much bigger window and more opportunity to showing you a great time on the water. Captain Taco \

Fishing Fort Lauderdale aboard Hooked Up Weโ€™ve gotten through summer and fall is looking great so far. With a little north current the bottom fishing has been great. The vermilion snappers along with a grouper here and there have made for some great dinners for our anglers. Also some of our bigger barracudas have moved into our shallow wrecks and are a blast to fight on our light tackle. Also this is one of the most exciting times of the year to fish for the showers. What is fishing the showers you say well Iโ€™ll explain. For some reason this time of the year we have found the sailfish and Mahia mahia seem to come in to real shallow water chasing the ballyhoo. This is a great way to really experience true sport fishing. What we do is catch some live ballyhoo and look for the birds and for these ballyhoo to come to the surface and while these bigger fish are chasing them you can see them showering on the surface and we try to run into the direction they are going and cast these live ballyhoo into them. It is very exciting and when it all comes together it is fast and furious A real adrenaline rush. Not to mention we are fishing with spinning rods so once you get hooked up the fight is a blast with this light tackle.

Oct 14 Today we went out deep-sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale with Anglia and Loren from Knoxville Tenn. We started out trolling the reef looking for some king fish or bonitos with 2 planner board running about 45 feet down and 3 baits skipping across the surface. At first fishing was slow but a bit of trolling it was the surface baits that paid off with Mahi mahi. Than we worked out way to a ship wreck where caught a few small bonitos and quickly set these live bonito out as live bait. And it paid off with Loren landing this big barracuda. Oct 134 WOW what a fun day today fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. We set out fishing with John his wife Brook their daughter Ella and last but by all means not lease their son Easton. They came down from Knoxville Tenn. however they happen to be natives of South Florida and they miss going out fishing for some Mahi Mahi. So we all decided to go for it and heck yea the right choice was made once we got to about 800 feet of water sure enough the fish showed up and we started catching. Now truth being told here Iโ€™ve got to take a second once again (JOHN WHAT ARE YOU THINKINH!!) LOL while John was fighting this 30 plus pounder he stopped to put Easton on his lap to let him try to help and yep you guessed it fish got away. Today we had a blast fishing with Brain and Danny from Minnesota. We went right to trolling in about 400 feet of water around all these schools of small tuna hitting on these minnows and while we knew that these tunas had their eyes set on these minnows and nothing else we were looking for what might be feeding on these tunas. So we set out 2 baits down deep and 3 baits skipping across the surface. First fish turned out to be a small tuna. But than one of our deep lines got hit and BAM a Mahi Mahi. Ok things were looking up when all of a sudden another Mahi BUT while they were reeling it in I got a hit on my high line and this fish started peeling off line. We were Hooked Up and soon enough this 30 pound Mahi was dancing all over the surface and now the real fight was on. After a good 20 min tug a war we landed this big Mahi. Guyโ€™s thanks again for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up. On a foot note I want to thank Fishing Booker for all their help keeping us charter boats busy during these trying ti\mes. Captain Taco
