He was a lot of help along the whole way he did a safety briefing before we got on the water he shared a lot of usefully information not just about fishing and he put in on a lot of quality fish. He had a personal size limit for the boat which was nice to see that he cared about the sport. He showed respect to each fish that was brought on board and he properly dispatched and bleed the fish to get the highest quality meat. And a really nice part was that he combined all fish together then divided them out so that all people would have the same amount of meat. Overall he was a really good captain and had a really good charisma to him. I would definitely recommend booking him because I will definitely be booking him again in the future.

Our bottom fishing/crabbing trip w/Captain Joe was in very dense fog, after going through the safety procedures he used good caution navigating out through the jetty and over the bar. After we dropped the crab pots, one of our party got sea sick. Captain Joe got us right on and kept us on the rock fish to fill our limits and after a very short soak, pull the pots and back to the dock.  We’ll do this again, perhaps with a little help from dramamine, we’ll be able to stay on the water a bit longer.  We were very impressed how this 1st year captain has his boat lined out to make fishing safe, efficient and fun.  Joe was also great in the way he took care of the catch (always cleaning as he worked) and including us in the process.

So normally I don’t leave reviews, but in this case with Captain Joe, I decided to take the time to review my trip. First off Captain Joe is not only patient and easy to talk to, but takes the time to explain how the sea and the tides work, to explain the bar crossing, and to explain where the fish are and how they go after the bait. What stood out about him to me was his integrity as a fisherman and his genuine care for the ocean above the job.  Not only did he ensure we weren’t fishing around other vessels and crabbing around other people’s pots, but he took the time to clean the ocean when he saw trash which is rare and a measure of his character.  As for our trip, it was my son’s first time out on the ocean and he was experiencing sea sickness and Captain Joe was very patient and kind to him and even though I thought my son had a bad trip, he informed me on the drive home that it was Captain Joe that made the trip positive for him and that he would definitely do another trip.  As for the trip itself, Captain Joe is not only knowledgeable and ensured that we caught our limit that day within the time allotted, but he masterfully was able to take care of everyone on the boat and ensure everyone caught fish and everyone had bait the whole time while keeping us safe and giving us an enjoyable trip. Even after the trip he took the time to come up to the fish cleaning station and stayed there with us until they were done when he didn’t have to and had a vessel to clean and talked more with us about the trip and the area. I cannot recommend him enough and if you are not using him for your guided fishing excursions when you are in Newport then you are missing out. If I ever get back to the Newport area again I will definitely book with him again.

It was a fantastic day for sure!! The boat was very nice and clean! The Captain was a blast and worked very hard to keep us on fish!! All my family and my best friend had an absolute blast and will definitely be back!! Loved the whole experience! Thank you!!

Captain Joe was spectacular. Put us in the fish right away and kept us pulling up fish. Very knowledgeable, personable and great with kids, while always keeping safety a priority. I look forward to going fishing with Captain Joe on The Good Time Charlie again, hopefully soon!
