This trip was OK based on the ease of booking, contact with the Captain prior to departure and the hospitality of Capt. Rob and his wife. But, as for catching fish based on our experience, sorry, but no. There just didn't seem to be any real urgency to put us on fish. Disappointing to say the least.

Solomons was a lovely place to visit — easy to navigate, not crowded, and full of genuinely friendly people. There was a nice variety of restaurants, and all the fishing boats seemed to be catching fish. A relaxing and enjoyable spot for a day trip or weekend getaway.

Just inform your Captain during booking what you are looking for so they will make the accommodations work well for you. Example we are planning on bringing our seniors on the next trip for bottom fishing and they showed us how they will set up to be able to accommodate us ?

If you’re hoping for rock fish (or whatever fish) make sure you can catch them. Turns out we missed fishing for rock fish by a day. Disappointing but still had a great time! Yes! We released the rock fish.

Layer up for the cold, be prepared to reel in 2-3 fish at a time - the deck can get really busy really fast.

Bottom fishing is more appropriate for young anglers and gives more “rod time” than trawling for Spanish mackerel.

It was hotter than Hades while we were out there but we still had a great time! I don’t think there’s really a bad time to go fishing. It’s the whole experience that matters.

June is a good time for 3-5lb blues, apparently the rock fish migratory patterns changed so summer time may not be ideal if that’s what you are hoping to land.

Bottom fishing is fun for kids because you catch a lot of fish. Spot aren't the best to eat. But easy to catch.

Go out with Captain Wally - he's very knowledgeable. You'll have a great time and you'll catch lots of fish!

Stay in-shore, practice with the smaller fishes! Your target should be bottom-feeders and whiting! You will have a great time, for the first time, if you try not to do to much.
