Caught several rainbow over 20 inches and were hooking fish
all day, but also accidentally hooked a king salmon. The guide quickly unhooked him and had him released gently in under a minute. I was really impressed with the respect and conservation mindset he showed. We saw 3 more Kings jumping out of the water and we left the area.

Pick early when salmon are in river. My trip was a bust because salmon had left and remaining Trout. Charles and others were not feeding due to stuffing themselves on salmon eggs. Don't rely on eggs alone!! Suggest you take recommended flies for Trout varieties and fluorocarbon line for leaders. Same for Salmon including spinners, real eggs, and flies.

Came in end of September but still caught fish. Had a lot of strikes and took some time with setting the hook. Pay attention to the guide as they will help all levels of experience

Bring a camera, take lots of pictures and enjoy the Alaskan wilderness. And take the longest trip possible. A single day just leaves you wanting more.

Fishing in May is hit and miss. Catch and release fishing and it’s still early for salmon. However, the weather was comfortable and the waters were very navigable.

The salmon were not running yet. I think by now they are but with all the heavy snow and rain this year, they are not up to Willow yet.

Make sure to bring rain gear. It wasn’t heavy rain but it was a steady drizzle.
