Make sure you dress in layers, especially if your starting at 5 a.m. It might not seem that cold when you walk out your front door, but it is much cooler along the river. I was glad I took gloves, just wished I would have worn some Under Armour to keep my legs warmer.

Go early morning. We went later and it seemed the fish had slowed down but that’s totally ok.
And know that if you book this trip this is NOT a fancy charter trip this is an outdoor out in the sun w a single captain. It might not be for everyone but it was PERFECT FOR us! They work really hard and are great people

Check the run schedule to see how heavy the catch can be expected, a lot of things impact the chance to catch fish outside of the guides control. We chose this time because we were here at this time but next time I’ll get deeper into the run schedule. Remember it’s fishing though and nothing is automatic

3 out 6 of us caught salmon this past weekend... manage expectations when season starts to wind down...

The fish are big. Arrange what you will do with your fillets. We got more than expected.

Understand that fishing on Kinik River is a small section of the river. There aren't options to fish other sections of the river if your section is not producing any bites.

This was my only trip to Alaska so I can't really say if the lack of fish was normal for this time of year.

Check Alaska fish & game website for emergency closures before booking. Salmon are quickly disappearing and the season can close with little notice.
