What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Okeechobee, Florida for the first time?

I would say that Okeechobee was an interesting place to fish because not only do you catch fish but you see other animals as well. We saw about twenty gators, one pig, and bunch of birds. So it was great for nature goers!

Hire a guide to put you in the right place for the time of year your fishing. Okeechobee is Hugh and you need some guidance.Make sure the guide understands your requests for presentation and abilities.

We actually went to a different lake (Headwaters) because Captain Paul said the fishing was as better there at this time.

We actually fished the Headwaters Lake as the Okeechobee is being lowered. But YES YES Fishing with Capt. Paul , the FISH WHISPERER ...LOL was nothing short of amazing.

Captain recommended we switch to Headwaters Lake and we would definitely recommend it.

Make sure changing weather patterns do not mess up the bite. Pay close attention to fluctuations in temp and look for a steady cold temp.

Be mindful your paying fir the bait, it's a little expensive but once your on the trip it all dissappears.

Listen to the captain for catching large mouth bass. Once you get the feel and hang of it, it’s awesome fishing

The Okeechobee is like none other. Everyone needs to fish here at least once in their lifetime or make it an annual trip.

The fish were not as active at this time due to the water levels and temperature of the water.

Bring some sunscreen and sun glasses and maybe a light long sleeve shirt if you tend to burn easy.

Talk to someone that has experience on the lake, hire a fishing charter if possible

Ask questions. Try different things. You never know what hits, top, fluke, senko, speed

Bring a hat and wear sunscreen. Bring a cooler and enjoy. It’s a fantastic time
