Lots of things happening that day. Cold front moving in. Live bait didn’t show up till late in the morning and then was loosely schooled up…made a few attempts with cast net. I knew that wasn’t going to work so I committed to tossing an assortment of artificials. Late that afternoon, front passed through, water warmed up, and had a minor feeding period. Caught a few speckled trout and marked the location to come back to!

What a way to end this mornings trip with a 27 lb stud that put up an awesome battle! Wound up being last fish of the trip that had me 30 minutes behind for afternoon trip. Yep, it was worth it!! Congrats on a mighty fine black drum, Rick!!

Had a little down time and took the wife out for the afternoon. We reeled in 3 bull reds (biggest was 39 3/4” 21 lbs; smallest was 37” 15 lbs)! What am awesome time together??

Had an enjoyable outing with an old friend, today! Started off hunting hogs with Ralph and decided it was time to catch fish. Caught several fish and had a stud break #20 leader. Moved to a different location and saw several big fish blowing up the water. Couldn’t make a connection. So, loaded up the boat and went way up the river to look more game.

Fishing bait pods while solo. This 39.5” bruiser weighed in at 19 3/4 lbs! Lots of long runs. If you think they fight harder in late spring and summer, you’d be wrong. Best time to target these overslot reds is in late winter and early spring. Find the time and I’ll provide the way!!

While the season was closed for speckled trout in February, my wife and I landed and released 6 slot sized specks! Look forward to visiting that area once the season returns!
