My group from Ohio booked their first gulf fishing trip on my website and they crushed it! We started with a slow bite, but it got hectic pretty fast. They loaded up on a limit of Vermillion Snapper, a few Grass Porgy's, and a couple triggerfish. Tons of undersized fish released as well. For the last half hour, they wanted to bend the rods a little more so we put on some bigger baits and they got to pull on a few nice red snapper. Seas were around 1ft, 10mph South winds, and partly cloudy. Was a great day!

The snapper bite has been phenomenal! Mangrove Snapper is open and one of the tastiest fish out there! Red Snapper should open up in June!

Two big sheepshead made it in the cooler today. Using live bait, we had several fish break off on structure. Would have been a huge haul if they all made it to the boat! Lots of Sheepshead and a couple felt like 20lb+ Black Drum. This fishing is only going to improve throughout winter and early spring.

Destin, FL January 14, 2022 With calmer water conditions, we were able to run further to a proven grouper spot. Using slow-pitch jigging and live bait, we managed to catch fish all day. Since Triggerfish and Red Snapper are not open we focused our efforts on catching Scamp Grouper. These fish are tricky to hook and are experts at stealing live bait. We had to use very light tackle which was very fun and sporty! Several break-offs from sharks, lots of nice snapper, and a ton of smaller triggerfish too.

Sheepshead fishing has been hit and miss so far this winter. The water has not really cooled off yet. This will change over the next couple weeks though! We stayed inshore all day because of a brisk SW wind that made the Gulf very rough. We fished some spots around the Destin Bridge that usually produce, but there were only Pinfish there to steal our bait. Once settling on a different spot we found some hungry fish! We landed 6 nice keepers between 14-18". The usual Carolina Rig was not working at all, but a specific jighead rigged with shrimp was very effective! This haul made for some nice fillets and a delicious dinner!

Cold temps but awesome fishing! Fishing over natural coral bottom, a variety of techniques brought some nice fish in the boat. 2 big Gag Grouper, lots of Red Snapper and Triggerfish, Red Porgy, Whitebone Porgy, and 2 huge Mangrove Snapper (aka Black Snapper). We also had 7ft shark caught on a slow pitch jig! She was unhooked and released to harass us another day!
