Lake Toho Winter Fishing Forecast
November 29, 2018
The winter time here in Florida is widely regarded as the best time to catch that monster bass that you’ve been looking for, and it without a doubt is. More bass over 10-pounds are caught on Orlando’s Lake Toho in the winter time than any other time of year. The picture above showcases just some of the trophy bass that we caught last January, February, and March. And I don’t doubt that we’ll beat that number this year. Last year we had some unstable weather with hurricane Irma hitting us in the fall. This year the weather has been a lot more stable (aside from a few normal cold fronts) and that should make for some truly magnificent bass fishing this winter on Florida’s Lake Toho. Why are the winter months the best time for catching trophy bass here in Florida? It’s because this is when these bass spawn. It starts in late December and ends in April. Big females filled with Ten pound Take Toho monster bass eggs begin to move up into spawning flats to drop their eggs and reproduce which is called spawning. These egg filled female bass weigh an average of 1-2 pounds more and are looking for a big meal before going up to spawn and then again after spawning. With these fish having other things on there mind at this time of year it makes them more susceptible to being caught. Trying the catch these fish while they’re spawning can be very difficult. The best way to catch these bass is in pre-spawn staging area’s where these Florida fish sit and feed before heading up shallower to spawn. You can catch good numbers out of these area’s along with having a good chance at catching a truly giant Lake Toho bass. If you’ve had a warming trend where things are warming back up, artificial lures can produce good fish. I’ll go more into what lures to use in another blog. But your best bet is always to use wild golden shiners for catching both the giant bass and numbers. Those things are like candy to them and they definitely let you get the most out of your day. The winter time is also our busiest time of year here on Lake Toho. Reservations should be made as far in advance as possible to be assured that we have one of our captains available for you on the date that you want to go on your trophy Lake Toho bass fishing trip. Bass wishes, Capt. AJ from Freelance Bass Guide Service

Lake Toho November Fishing Report
November 8, 2018
This November here on Orlando Florida’s Lake Toho it’s been all about the numbers, numbers, numbers. We’re averaging around 20 bass per day with some day’s up over 30 on our fishing guide trips! The action has been non-stop throughout the morning. We are on large groups of fish that are feeding heavily on bait fish. These are all healthy fish in the 2-3 pound range too! We are still getting plenty of fish up over 7 pounds along with these shear numbers of bass. We’re not only getting double ups, we’re getting some triple ups right now! Catching up to 3 fish at the same time. It’s been a lot of fun, and also a lot of work for me as a guide! Constantly un-hooking bass and re-baiting up hooks non-stop. It’s nothing to complain about though! The fall patterns are starting up on Florida’s Lake Toho and the bass are feeding heavily on spawning shad. Getting themselves all fattened up for the winter time spawn. Using baits that imitate shad are key at this time. Spinnerbaits, flukes, rattletraps, and white swimjigs have been working well. Alternatively if the fish are being tough (say after a cold front) weighless senkos worked in lily pads and hard grass and hydrilla edges have been working well. Just throw it out in the pads or grass edge and let it sink to the bottom. Lift up and if you don’t feel a fish reel up and do it again. It’s a pretty simple technique that the fish absolutely love! Live wild shiners, as always, have been producing the best numbers and biggest fish. The bass are grouping up in prime cover right now on Lake Toho. Areas where lily pads, hydrilla, and Kissimmee grass are all mixed together are key to finding good groups of fish. Also area’s with eel grass (which is the flat long grass that kind of looks like regular lawn grass) and hydrilla mixed together have been holding good groups of fish also. All in all the lake continues to fish well and big numbers of fish are being caught on our Lake Toho fishing guide trips. We are having some spectacular days. October Lake Toho fishing report
October 22, 2018
It's the Fall and we're in a transition period here in Orlando Florida. The day's are getting cooler and as always at this time of year the FWC (Florida Wildlife Commision) has begun to spray and kill off the hydrilla in Lake Toho. Now you may be wondering why would they do this? Well it's not without good reason. Hydrilla in Lake Toho during the summer here in Florida grows extremely fast. Up to 2 inches a day in some cases. While it is great for the fishing it tends to overrun portions of the lake, like bass spawning flats and boat canals. So during the fall they begin clearing out areas for the upcoming bass spawn in the winter and canals for boat traffic. While this hurts the fishing in these areas for a short time, it ultimately is good for the bass population and the fishing as a whole. Luckily most of the areas we have been fishing haven't been touched. Despite the spraying, the bass fishing has been consistently good on Lake Toho as it has been throughout the year. We're averaging catching around 10-15 bass per day with some day's 20. The bass are spreading out a little due to the fall transition. Bass can be caught up shallow as well as off-shore. The majority of the bigger fish still remain on off-shore hydrilla patches where we are still catching them consistently. The best producer of the big fish as always has been live wild shiners. But if you're looking to use artificials, fishing a weightless senko in lily pads and grass edges has been very productive. Alternatively there are also groups of bass beginning to key in on schools of shad out in open water throughout the lake. If you happen to find one of these schools it can be lights out! Throwing a Spook on top, a jerkbait, or a Rattletrap can be great ways of catching these fish. All in all Orlando's Lake Toho is fishing very well. Trophy sized bass are being caught consistently, and after all, that's what fishing Florida is all about right? Bass wishes, Capt. AJ

Lake Toho September Fishing Report
September 14, 2018
The Summer fishing on Lake Toho this year has possibly been the best ever! With more numbers of fish and more big fish being caught than what seems like ever before. This is due to the lower than average water temperatures that we’ve been experiencing. Especially compared to last year where water temperatures were hitting the mid 90’s daily. Which made the fishing tough. Luckily this year was a cooler one and the water temp has stayed in the 80’s. And these Florida fish love it. Just a month ago we were averaging catching around 20-30 bass on our Lake Toho charters. While unfortunately that has seemed to have ended, we are still averaging around 15 a day on our 4-5 hour trips. With a chance at a giant nearly every trip. As always live wild shiners have been the best producers. But the artificial bite has been pretty good flipping and using speed worms. So if artificialing is your thing now is a great time to go. The majority of the fish are still offshore as the water temps have not yet cooled down enough for the fish to start moving shallower. Deeper hydrilla edges and offshore hydrilla are where the majority of the fish are, and is where most of the bigger fish are being caught. All in all this year has been one of the best ever for fishing Toho and I don’t see it stopping anytime soon. With the temperatures in Florida getting ready to start slowly falling the fishing outta just keep getting better as we head into the fall. If you’re looking to book your trip now would be the time to get in on the action while their's still dates available. Bass wishes, Captain AJ

Lake Toho July Fishing Report
July 2, 2018
The bass fishing on Lake Toho here in Central Florida this summer has been as good as it ever gets. The State of Florida and Corps of Engineers has lowered the lake levels this summer an extra foot further than they usually do for summer pool levels. In total the lake is three and a half feet down from it's winter time pool level. These low water levels in the lake have forced the bass out of the maidencane grass fields into open areas of the lake and on the edges of the grass. This has caused the fish to concentrate in certain areas where you have eel grass or hydrilla off the main grass lines in the lake. Our captains have been experiencing catches of 20 to up over 50 bass on four to six hour trips. With larger numbers than usual of 8 to over 10 lb bass being caught this summer. Wild shiners have been the key to getting the large numbers of bass and also the trophy size Lake Toho Bass. The only drawback to this is the number of shiners that we've been using just to make it through the amount of time that you will be fishing. Artificial lures have also been producing good numbers of bass with occasional trophy size bass being caught flipping grass edges and hydrilla beds. The phenomenal bass fishing that we've been getting lately in Lake Toho should continue right through the summer while these water levels are low so if you're planning a trip to Central Florida this would be a great time to get out on the lake and catch a lot of Florida bass and possible the trophy bass of a lifetime.
