For permit, be prepared for accurate casting and listening to your guide. I fly fished for permit for the first time and was not as well prepared as I thought. The guides are great and will coach you, but at the end of the day it is up to you to cast accurately to these fish.

Having an experienced fishing guide makes all the difference… remember it's fishing no guarantees … it's a privilege just to be able to go fishing where some folks can't…leave you ego on the dock ..watch..listen…learn and do what the guide says …lastly have positive energy ?

Be ready to move the trip if needed! We shifted a day instead of settling for a 1/2 day in the lagoon and it paid off as we were able to go to the inner reef for the majority of the next day. Forecast is unreliable even day to day so wake up early and see what the day offers!

Be patient. If the wind isnt moving, it gets very hot, and the fish are able to see swivel/weights/etc. As soon as the wind picked up a little, we moved back to the spot we started at, and caught the fish that wouldn't bite in the morning.

Took the inner reef trolling trip. The captain stops to catch live bait, before he brings you to different spots of interest. Hang on to your rod and be ready to the reel the fish in! These fish are strong for their size, so when you land a big one, it can be a workout to bring them to the boat. Use good sunscreen and\or long sleeve shirts and pants!
