SAILFISH ON THE FLY ABOARD GOOD DAY COST
SAILFISH ON THE FLY ABOARD GOOD DAY COST
May 15, 2023
SAILFISH ON THE FLY Super nice day aboard GOOD DAY yesterday & great to see Jennifer & Dustin catch their 1st ever Sailfish on the Fly, special moments indeed for two avid Fly Anglers & it was great to share it with them. We had 1 great shot early in the trip with a super hot Sailfish which ate the Fly but the hook didn’t stick. Things then completely shut down. Between 8am & 12pm we had only raised 1 Sailfish & things were looking bleak. Boats around us were experiencing the same & it was not looking good for us to turn the day around. As things have a habit of doing in fishing, when the fish decide to play ball, all hell can break loose. No sooner did we start eating lunch after 12pm did the bite turn on, we raised 8 Sailfish in the next hour including back to back Sailfish releases for Jennifer & Dustin. Jennifer fought her fish for 30 minutes & Dustin around 20 minutes, both caught on 12wt tackle. It was extra special that Dustin caught his Sailfish on a Rod passed on by a special friend to many, the late Peter Gorinsky Peter unfortunately passed away last year but was considered the godfather & pioneer of Costa Rica Fly Fishing. The Costa Rica Association of Fly Fishers were visiting Quepos this weekend to hold the Peter Gorinsky Fly Fishing School for the children of our town, which is just a wonderful ongoing initiative around the country run by a dedicated group of Fly Anglers. So many great things happening here this weekend. Catch Report aboard GOOD DAY - 14 May Raised 14 Sailfish +/- 4 bit the Fly Released 2 Sailfish on Fly Shoutout **hidden content**ryday for the help behind the lense & on the teasers ???

What anglers said about fishing in Quepos

Try shoreline first because it is more accessible and there are plenty of fish. DEEP SEA: At least 2 persons, spend the dollars for a larger boat, try to avoid turist season.

Go for a full day if you want to catch multiple fish. Don't get too worked up over the little things, they work hard for you. Enjoy the experience come what may Pura Vida.

Make sure your captain has bait lined up before you arrive. It's gonna take time to fish for the big stuff and there is Nooo reason to pay to bait fish.

Tuna were a great fish to go after. The water was amazing and I would have to say some of the best fishing I’ve ever experienced.

Hire a local panga like Hidalgo Sportfishing - it is cheaper and supports the locals. You get great opportunity to fish with the full attention of a local captain who really knows the hot spots.

Understand it is into the rainy season, so the weather and waves can be rough. Still big fish to be caught.

Remember that it's called "fishing" and not "catching" for a reason. Some days the fish just aren't there. Understand which months are best for the type of fish you're hoping to catch. If you've got specific questions, contact the respective charter contact for details. All of them seemed very willing to assist and answer any questions.

Nice marina easy to find with a good breakfast out of the mini mart on sight. fishing grounds for us were an hour out so not to bad and the restaurant on sight cooked the fish up for us at the end of the day!

Get some inshore Roosters/Snappers & Jacks early, then try everything on offer - you can bottom fish species hunting inshore (and off-shore), or go after off-shore Bill-fish where the whole spectrum of lure taking hard fighting fish including Wahoo, Dorado, Jacks, Tuna, Amberjack and Rainbow Runners are present for most of the year.

Do this trip with an open mind - enjoy the full experience without focusing completely on the catch you personally want. Jackpot's commitment to conservation- keeping the game fish catch in the water - quick and safe release is commendable.

100% recommended, the sportfishing in Costa Rica is excellent, all year you can to catch sailfish, mahi mahi or tunas. Also the inshore fishing is very good for roosterfish, mackarele and red snapper. Is better that you write by e-mail to Martin, the operation manager, he is like a friend in Costa Rica.
