Another great day with fly equipment. The dry fly bite was slow. Switched the nymphs and were on fish almost constantly. Lost a real big mystery fish after they rocketed toward timber. Gotta love the variety and unknowns this kind of fishing affords.

With the shiners not being present at the launch, its always helpful to have other bait. Did not slow down catch rates, just increased โ€œby catchโ€ on a perch trip. That means more gills and redears than usual. Still adds up to a respectable number of perch and a cooler full.

Being patient in late summer is key. Lots of sun and heat push fish deeper and have them waiting to eat during prime feeding windows. After sunset the topwater bite has been solid. Finding large schools of bait helps. Pike were successfully targeted today, but slashed lines like they like to do.
