5 Fall Bass Fishin' Tips for Table Rock Lake
Howdy y’all! Fall’s rollin’ in, the leaves are changin’, and them bass are gettin' hungry. If you wanna fill the livewell and tell some fish tales worth braggin’ about, here’s 5 dang good tips for catchin' more bass this time o’ year down at
Table Rock.
1. Chase Them Shad
Why? When that water starts coolin’ off, them baitfish (like shad) start wanderin' up into the creeks and hollers.
Where to Fish: Hit the backs of coves, up in them creek arms, and them shallow flats where you see shad dancin’.
Best Baits:
Spinnerbaits (they flash like a disco ball)
Rat-L-Trap (rattles like grandma's pill bottle)
Soft swimbaits (look just like a snack to ol’ bucketmouth)
2. Throw Topwater at First Light
Why? Early mornin’s get them bass fired up and snappin' at the surface like they're mad at it.
When: First light or right 'fore sundown, when the lake’s calm like a Sunday sermon.
Throw These:
Walkin’ baits like a Zara Spook (walk the dog like it’s got fleas)
Poppers (make a commotion like a coon in a trash can)
Buzzbaits near rocks and timber (bass love ambushin’)
3. Work Them Transition Spots
Why? Bass are movin’ from their deep summer homes to them shallower fall feedin’ grounds — just like folks headin’ from the couch to the fridge.
Look For:
Secondary points
Channel bends
Bluff ends
Lure Up With:
Jigs (drag 'em like you’re pullin’ a possum on a rope)
Shaky heads
Deep-divin’ crankbaits (let ‘em tick them rocks)
4. Downsize If They’re Picky
Why? If the fish get fussy or the weather’s gone all weird, smaller baits can save the day.
Best Lil’ Baits:
Ned rigs (like givin’ ‘em a mini snack)
Drop shots with skinny worms
Tiny swimbaits (2.8–3.3”) on light jig heads (don’t scare ‘em off with somethin’ big and ugly)
5. Mind That Water Temp
Why? Bass act different dependin’ on how chilly it gets down there.
Keep This in Mind:
65–55°F: Fish’ll be shallow and chompin’
Below 55°F: Slow it way down, fish deeper and right up against cover (like you’re sneakin’ up on ‘em)
