Trip Summary

Hey there, Capt. Vinnie here with the YB Normal. For this week I have a great report for you, the theme continues as of last weeks report with excellent fishing. This week we had some great weather to go along with our deep sea fishing. To start it off the trolling bite has began to be very productive for species like kingfish. They have begun to show up in larger numbers just off the coast in shallow depths from 80-140 feet. Majority of the fish have been smaller sized but thats to be expected with the first wave of fish, they should continue to get larger as we get closer to summer. Staying on the reef the sailfish seem to have taken a break, although it is getting to the end of there season some fish will stay around for a while and some will leave, kite fishing wont be as common of a way to target the sailfish it will mostly transition to trolling baits. Moving a little bit deeper the blackfin tuna bite has been very steady recently when the water is blue to purple color. Some days the water is green and those days tuna are hard to come by. When we have blue water usually that means north current which would be a spin off of gulfstream water and those days we seem to have the best results fishing for tuna. Most of the tuna have been around 10lbs average but fishing live baits has been the best way to catch larger tuna close to 30lbs. Last but not least for offshore species the mahi mahi have been plentiful but the sizes have been mixed. A lot of fish on the smaller size but there are some keeper size as well. This is great news because last year they didn't show till later summer early fall and now we are getting them in early summer, who knows it could be a great year for them. One thing i can say with the mahi right now and this happened to us on a recent charter is make sure to have some rods rigged to cast to the mahi incase they swim up to the boat, last week on a charter we were bottom fishing around 400 feet and a turtle came up and it was full of mahi, luckly we have rods rigged at all times but if we didn't we might of missed that chance. We ended up catching 15 mahi but only 8 keeper size but if we weren't prepared thats 8 less fish we could of caught. Hopefully that fishery gets better and better as summer approaches. This week please be sure to take a look at some of the great photos of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram **hidden content** for daily fishing content. Coming up for the month of May we have plenty of availability for deep sea fishing charters. May is a great month for fishing here with lots of options of things to catch including grouper opening on the first. If your thinking about coming down to do some fishing we would love to show you a great time on the water... more later..... Capt. Vinnie

Great Start To Fall Deep Sea Fishing
Great Start To Fall Deep Sea Fishing
September 30, 2026
Hey there, Capt. Vinnie here back with a great Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing report. We had a rainy week this week and a light cold front to cool things off, but there was a few days that the weather was absolutely fantastic, and i would say the fishing was just about the same. For the report this week we finally got to see the run of fall fishing we love. Mahi mahi is always a hot topic and fall is one of the best times to catch them, a lot of people think summer is the best and it can be but the fish tend to be smaller specially in our area and not much is consistent like as to where you can find them. The fall mahi season is when we see majority of our bigger mahi and plenty of numbers. Due to all the rain we have been having it has given our inshore waters a tanic look or tea color, and when we have an outgoing tide all that inshore water moves out to sea forming a tide line where the blue water meets the green water and that has been where the mahi fishing has been excellent. This tideline has been easy to find by the different color in the water as well as weed lines going north to south and floating debris. This is where the gulfstream water meets the outgoing tide. Trolling on the blue side has been straight money for mahi mahi and multiple hook ups have been the norm. Its very important to have rods to cast when you get multiple hook ups because majority of the fish are in a school and you want to take advantage of those opportunities. Average size on the mahi have been anywhere from 8-12lbs. We did find this edge on a half day trip but i recommend a 3/4 day trip or even all day trip right now if mahi is what your after. We have a photo this week of a great all day trip we had catching 40 mahi mahi! Exactly on that edge I was talking about. Other then mahi right now there has been some wahoo due to the full moon and the crazy king tides we have been having. The tidal edge I mentioned earlier is also a great place to try for wahoo and never hurts to fish a bait below the surface on a planner just in case! Inshore we are starting to see a fall flurry of king mackeral and it should keep improving as we get further into the month of October, last but not least there has been a small trickle of sailfish which I personally think maybe a hint for a great winter season, right now we are still mostly trolling for all species but in another few months all that gear will be put away and transition into our live bait gear, seeing a nice little flurry should continue as we reach our winter months. This week please take a minute to check out some of our great photos of some recent catches that were caught on our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram at Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Coming up, I think that the mahi fishing will continue to stay very good until November so there is plenty of time to get out there and catch them, also i think as the water cools we will see more blackfin tuna and a few more wahoo so be on the look out for that in future reports. As for availability there is plenty for the month of October and fall fishing is one of my favorite times and is when i tell a lot of our customers to come back and fish with us again! So if your thinking of coming down to do some deep sea fishing now is the time, the pictures speak for themselves all you have to do is look up is YB Normal servicing Fort Lauderdale, Dania beach and Hollywood beach for deep sea fishing charters. more later.... Rainy Week Of Deep Sea Fishing
Rainy Week Of Deep Sea Fishing
September 17, 2026
Hello there, Capt. Vinnie here back with another Fort Lauderdale sport fishing report. This week has been a little slow for us here in the deep sea fishing department, it's offseason right now and these hefty fuel prices are not helping for business either, but we were able to get out on a few trips this week and thats all thanks to our great customers that come to fish with us which we are very grateful and thankful for. Fishing this week has been some what tough, i hate to say it but thats what it is, we seem to be having what's called a cold water upwelling at the moment and the reason I can confirm that is because we have been having northern currents on the surface and southern currents on the bottom bringing that colder water from up north, also we have been experiencing a healthy amount of rain and that has made the inshore waters very green. In terms of fishing the trolling bite has been decent to say the best, blackfin tuna and bonito aka false albacores have been super prevalent early in the mornings in depths around 200 feet, majority of the action has been on the surface with smaller lures trying to imitate flying fish, the earlier the better right now if you can get out before the sun comes up even better, once the sun seems to get up the bite fades quickly. There has been some pretty nice sized tunas around as big as 15lbs but the false albacores have been on the smaller side. Bottom fishing this week has been the real winner with solid catches of larger vermillion and yellow eye snappers. We had some very good luck fishing some hard bottom in 270 feet with some quality fish to prove it, the month of September is one of the last months that the snappers spawn out of Fort Lauderdale and from fishing out here for so many years I knew exactly where to look. Last but not least way offshore the mahi mahi fishing has been great but an all day trip is absolutely necessary because of the distance they been offshore. The mahi have been on weed lines and birds, the most important thing is to be ready incase a school comes up when you hook up, having extra rods rigged for that and live bait is going to help maximize opportunities if you get that school of fish behind the boat, September and October are great months for mahi fishing in Fort Lauderdale so keep that in mind when planning your next trip. This week please be sure to check out some great photos of some recent catches that where caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters in Fort Lauderdale and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram at Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. This week coming up we are going to be down for some much needed maintenance, but will return full throttle the week prior with plenty availability for your next deep sea fishing charter. If your heading down to south Florida and looking to do some fishing check out YB Normal for all your deep sea fishing needs servicing Fort Lauderdale, Dania beach, and Hollywood beach. more later..... Labor Day Deep Sea Fishing
Labor Day Deep Sea Fishing
September 8, 2026
Hello there, Capt. Vinnie here with another Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing report. This week has been a little bit of a tricky one, afternoon showers have been scaring a lot of people off from wanting to go deep sea fishing right now but the truth is, getting an early start like 7am can keep you in the fish and home in time to get you out of the weather. Now September is a month that is notorious for slow business here but it tends to have the best fishing of the whole year, which in terms makes that better for you the consumer. For the fishing report this week there has been a great bite inshore on kingfish. Kingfish is a very popular fish with a good amount of our customers. Its very good to make smoked for fish dip as well as blackened or fried. These fish have been very prevalent early in the mornings as shallow as 100 feet and have been biting best on our baits fished under the surface. Next species that has been good is blackfin tuna on early mornings, depths around 200-300 feet is where we have been fishing. The blackfin tunas like lures fished a little faster and a little further behind the boat, the most important thing is to not slow down when you get a bite, tunas are a schooling fish and keeping your same speed at the time of a hook up can result in multiple hook ups. Blackfins have been anywhere from 5-15lbs. We are just coming off of a full moon and that means wahoo, there has been a few nice wahoo as a "by- catch" while fishing for species like tuna. The outgoing tide in the early morning is going to give you the best chance at getting that trophy wahoo. Same depths as the tuna is where your going to want to be focusing most of your time, there has been a few bigger ones in the 30lb range but majority have been 18-25lbs. Another species that has been around and is always a pleasure is sailfish. These guys always bring joy to any anglers face with there fast runs and acrobatic jumps, primarily our sailfish season is winter to spring but we are seeing a nice little fall run right now, trolling has been the best option for all types of gamefish being there has been very light winds and a steady current. It is important to pay attention to surface baits with sailfish being around because you want to see the bite before they actually eat it. A lot of times sailfish will whack a bait with there bill and if there is no reaction they will loose interest quick, so its very important for the deckhand to notice that and reel the bait away to get that predator instinct. This week take a minute to check out some of the great photos this week of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram at Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. For the rest of the month of September we have a good amount of availability for deep sea fishing charters and now is one of the best times of the year for that, so if your thinking about heading down to south Florida check out YB Normal servicing Fort Lauderdale, Dania beach, and Hollywood beach. More later... Capt. Vinnie
